though i havent blogged much the past few months (and years) i have been expressing myself on social networking websites, especially Facebook and Twitter. And recently someone or people have started using my internet alias "moyameehaa" and this blog's url to comment on minivannews.com . I have commented after that guy, stating my real views a few times now.

This guy who i suspect (from what he posts) to be an average local islamist or possibly a wahhabee is using my name to make it look like that i am an Atheist who hates Islam and Muslims.

Not really surprising because in their delusional world where china doesn't matter, USA, UN and EU are all conspiring to take away the "religion" of 3 lakh Islanders in Maldives and always plotting (with the help of Jews ofcourse!) to kill and harm muslims around the world. In this delusion of persecution and the paranoia resulting from it; I have become a member of some imaginary "atheistchristianjewgaylaadheenee alliance" in Maldives that conspire with the ruling MDP to"destroy" Islam. So they want to portray me like that, and is using fake comments to do so.

Not that i have to explain myself to anyone, but I am a Muslim, I Love my country and I am a humanist. I am only against the Islamist Invasion of this country, and the barbarism and human rights violations they carry out in the name of Islam. NOT against Islam or Muslims. I even respect the Wahhabis' and Islamists' right to freedom of conscience, thought and expression even though i disagree with them. I don't HATE, them i just disagree with their interpretation of Islam. I am FOR Islam and Human Rights. And I see no contradiction between these two.

I have requested minivannews to allow commenting through a service like facebook connect or disqus to retain our identities. I applaud Haveeru News for doing that. Their new website and its commenting function is pretty kool.

So from now on, if there is ANY comment with the name "moyameehaa" or anything similar commenting on minivannews or any other site without a commenting service like that...that is NOT ME!

The maldivian haabees have dissapointed me. really. :(

smoking is haraam, movies are haraam. music is haraam,secularism and democracy is haraam.tom and jerry and mickey mouse are haraam. travelling without a mahram,showing hair and using perfume are all haraam for women.and the list goes on.

They protest over changes in alchohol regulations, when a muslim converts, about the new curriculum,about diplomatic relations with israel, about something written on the internet..etc. They make facebook groups against their critics, against cocacola, issued death threats against secularists and that one guy who converted from islam for a few hours...etc.

BUT!

But they fail to issue any verdict against the worldcup. they did not protest against it, or even make a goddamned facebook group against it. instead they converted their haabee screens of doom (HSDs) in to worldcup screens, bought TVs for their homes/shops, and started enjoying the matches. you heard it. they are ENJOYING a worldly sport. what the frack is this? something is really wrong here.

im not gonna just sit around when the only passionate and devoted buncha people (you so-called liberals are wussies!) in my country screw up over some lame game. (apologies, football fans. no disrespect. but i dont like football).... so i decided to set aside our differences and help them out. i decided to do it for them and get everything back to normal.for this reason today...today im gonna frigging give a fatwah. oh yeah. brother moyameehaa is gonna give you one really kickass fatwa today. now ~~listen!~~ read!

the world cup is haraam for many reasons. but since 10 is an important and serious number; id give you ten reasons. they are:

men displaying their awrah (hedhun laigen oriyaamun, as our beloved mullahs would/should put it). behaving in ways which can provoke sexual desires of women and gay men. immodesty.
supporting kafir nations like the evil america and portugese!?! this is unacceptable. imitating the kuffaar is common during worldcups. wearing their jerseys, flags and copying their hairstyles. then there are the vuvuzelas. obviously it is not really a 'musical' instrument, but it is part of south african kafir culture and made in kafir communist china!
people watching football even when it is prayer time. just like music is haraam for being an 'idle waste of time'. a friend told me there were only two rows in their neighbourgood mosque when the game was on. i told him even those few people could problyy be the hardcore supporters of some team praying for victory.
too much female skin. there are the football fan chicks and cheerleading gals - flashing once in a while. yeah, this is the only time you get to see a naked boob on maldivian national television. and therez the waka waka song. it is straight from hell. what moves. what the shakira! masha allah! i mean, naoozbillah.
people waste a lot of money buying TVs,sound systems (to 'listen' to worldcup yeah), setting up screens, decorating rooms,buying airtel dish (which is also haraam for showing christian channels),buying a lot of food,buying calendars, books,stickers...etc. such waste of money are always haraam.
media and some local companies have started betting on these games in the name of sms lucky draw quiz. more haraam activities.
people stay late to watch football. its a cause for being late for work, and sometimes causes you to miss dhamunamaadhu and fajr prayer. and staying up late for such an evil activity and missing prayers because of that is totally unacceptable. it is leading you astray. haraam again.
mixing of men and women at the football stadium and places (public screens and even rooms) where people watch the matches. we can hear women laughing and screaming too.calling out names of football players. astaghfirullah.
the world cup is sponsored by greedy kafir capitalist corporations who probably have connections with the freemasons and all. you are helping them. boycott worldcup and boycott cocacola too.
it does not follow the saudi fatwa on rules for halal football.

Not a huge threat, humanitarian efforts are always kool.

These days everyone is talking about the gitmo prisoners they are gonna bring here. innocent. are they, really? we may never know. since they werent foud guilty of a crime, theyd be innocent technically. but the word 'innocent' can be applied to any one who is not found guilty of a crime. Gayoom is also innocent, in this sense. just because someone face cruelty and injustice does not change anything about who he is. we have very good examples of this here in Maldives. chances are extremely high that these people are extremists and potential terrorists waiting to be activated (as the opposition DRP supporters claim). But im not opposing this. Coz even if this is the case, we need not fear for an extreme idea that might be imported with these people. because there wont be any extreme ideas that aint already here. we have all sorts of wahhabis and jihadis and trained terrorists here; its already here and there is nothing more to import. and i kinda accept that humanitarian angle.

helping innocent muslim brothers

So, they were treated unjustly by the USA....and this brings me to the main point i want to make here. THAT seems to be the focus of most maldivians. the other night on some FM channel there was a vox pop segment on this issue. almost everyone who supported (and most people supported this) gave "because they are innocent muslim brothers" as reason for bringing them here. Now, why do we feel like this? why these sympathetic opinions and emotional attitude? why do we feel that there is an obligation to bring them here?

Victim mentality and the conspiracy theories/paranoia about the imaginary muslims-VS-kuffar war

During the 30 years of darkness, people were continuously brainwashed with certain ideas. through the education system, through sermons and lecture, through word of mouth and most importantly through MEDIA! among these was the idea that 'there is and will always be a war between muslims and non-muslims. non-muslims are always trying to hurt muslims because they hate muslims'. Israel is the key example, with the media going on and on about it. They still describe suicide bombers as 'a martyr who sacrificed his/her life'. and then there is all the conspiracy theory stuff like jews controlling the whole world, jews are behind sept 11 attacks (i remember a series of articles on this published on Dharuma magazine). i dont support the israeli actions either, i believe palestinians are suffering there. and i hate it! but the sufferings of palestinians is being used as a tool to brainwash people. in the end, with the belief that since palestinians are suffering, we are also suffering...and understanding that america/israel is behind it...we start hating them. then we start hating jews and kafirs in general. now add a little fundie knowledge, you will get one angry 'muslim brother' clenching his finger, jumping in a fit of rage screaming; throw the kafir down the well...then we have a big party...in reality, the middle east conflict is not merely a religious conflict. it is not in black and white as a common maldivian would assume. most people dont know that there are secular movements working for the liberation of palestine, infact the only palestinian that i know personally is an Agnostic. but he loves his nation and is a political activist for the cause.

age-old blame game

...going back to the brainwashing; now people feel like being victims of the kafir people. we have an enemy to blame for our socio economic problems. Muslims, are weak and poor coz of the Kafir nations! The civil war among the early muslims (which led to the sunni/shiah divide) is also blamed on Abdullah Ibn Sabah ( a JEW!) This has continued through out history, and antisemitic conspiracy theories are supported by religious shiekhs and common people as well.

From Bosnia to Iraq

theyve seen the Bosnia war (and tried to donate some money even). Theyve seen the Iraq war and how American occupation hurt the people. A lot of maldivians openly supported Saddam Hussein, because for them he is the Hero who stand up against the "Kafir Forces". They dont hear about the atrocities he commit against "our muslim brothers and sisters". The famousAuguraana Singer (a type of music with bollywood music and dhivehi lyrics with a lot of profanity, hate speech and mockery) Haaburi dedicated a whole album praising Saddam. This tape was played on Boats, Market Place, and in Islands around the country. One song goes like ..."Saddam Varuge Shahsiyyatheh Dhuniyeyga Nethey Thiyakurahvaa Hiyvaru Fulhah Saabas Dhemey.." Here he is adressing Saddam in the highest and aristocratic level of formality and politeness from the three degrees of politeness found in Dhivehi language. saying that there is no better character than Saddam in this world, and applauding him for his courage!!

Double Standards

With this mentality, anyone who become a victim of non-muslim 'enemies'...are noticed, and maldivians feel sympathetic towards them, even tries to give any form of humanitarian aid they could. and this is a good thing. But it is only these people, people like palestinians and prisoners in gitmo that are considered muslim brothers and sisters who need our help.I have noticed how they try to mix up being arabs and being muslims.

what about the african muslims suffering coz of poverty, civilwar and ethnic conflicts. The Islamic Ministry iof Maldives is of the view that Haitian muslims werent good enough (or should i say haabee enough?), and that is the reason for the 2010 quake. They did not send money like in case of Bosnia, or Palestine...but rather mocked these 'muslim brothers and sisters'. The Sri Lankan civilwar did not get much media attention or attention of those who help "muslim brothers and sisters" despite the country being our closest neighbor.

they dont usually notice the conflicts between two muslims groups and the victims of these violence. sometimes they even fail to notice conflicts because the enemy is not one of the "major kafir nation" (which would be America, Israel, Europe and Australia) . This brings me to the point...what about the chinese people! they make all the stuff...uh, i think i will keep this for another post.too big.

Bangaalhee Brothers and Sisters

Now, for the reason why i actually started typing this post! i discovered THIS (via Phenol). a facebook group against 'bangaalhee people' (mostly-southasian, expatriate workers). they created a hate-group against bangaalhees, even when many of them are "muslim brothers and sisters". Bangaalhees are treated like subhumans, like shit! ive seen a lot of that. yet another sad reality in maldives. and from a human rights perspective, NOTHING is being done about this. we dont hear this very often in the Media, not from the ministries, not from HRCM, not from islamic groups and parties. so much for 'humanitarian efforts' and 'helping muslim brothers and sisters'.

i say the "helping out innocent muslims brothers and sisters" argument for bring the Gitmo guys to maldives is just bull! Anni is just taking advantage of the Maldivian people's "united victimized brotherhood" button. Letter on child marriage

This is a copy of a letter to the editor that I sent to minivannews.com (im not sure why it was published as 'anonymous'...perhaps the homo..*cough* i mean that foundation...well never mind. here it is.

Dear Editor,

I salute the UNICEF Representative Mansoor Ali for commenting about the reservations in the article 14 of the new child abuse law. This reservation is based solely on a corrupt interpretation of Islamic texts which, I believe, many of the fundamentalist ‘scholars’ (Adhaalath, Jamiyyatussalaf, Islamic Foundation etc) support. It is the same idea that Sheikh Abu Ameena Bilal Phillips expressed at “The Call” lectures; that a child who has reached puberty is ready to get married.

While I agree that children do not grow up all of the sudden on their 18th birthday, we should understand that laws cannot be made for individual cases, it would be general. Since we have made 18 years the age of consent, any form of sex between an adult and a minor (below 18) should be considered as sexual abuse. The special reservation is approval of child abuse, decriminalising a crime just because it is committed in the name of Islam. It is a shame to our nation and to all Muslims that disapprove of such evils.

I believe child marriage should be a more serious crime than child abuse outside of such a ‘marriage’, since the child will be under a lot of pressure as their community and parents support the abuse. The child may even have to give birth, do household work inappropriate for their age, or take care of a family at such young ages. They would be continuously abused by their ‘husbands’. The beliefs of most extremists give no excuse for women (or girls) to deny it when their husbands ‘need’ them. So the law should consider this to be continuous and systematic statutory rape of an innocent child!

I’m surprised to see that the concubine issue is so troubling to many people while child marriages in these extremist communities have been going on for a long time without anyone noticing it. Children as young as 13 have been given away in marriage to men as old as 50! But what sort of sentences do these people get? In one case it was just banishment under the ‘religious unity act’. The reason was that the extremists have produced all the documents proving the ‘marriage’ was carried out as Islamic Shariah requires (the child having reached puberty too). They just did it at home, with their gang members as hakim and witnesses instead of going to a court. So the Judges at court were obliged to consider this a valid marriage in accordance to Islamic Shariah. When he drafted the bill MP Mohamed Nasheed warned us about this issue, but I was hopeful that it would be solved by the time it become a law.

When Shariah overrides law, and this Shariah is the word of any bearded Sheikh; I don’t think this is a very democratic picture. We all need to uphold the law and respect it. But for this to happen, the laws should treat everyone equally, it should be clear and understood by all, it should not be too vague, it should not be overridden by anything (including the words of random Sheikhs). Since the constitution does not define ‘Islam’ or ‘Islamic’ Shariah, it is left for the gang of Mullahs who are in bed with the ruling government to define it as they wish.

Such unquestionable and absolute power held by one small group of people will never yield any good results. It is a door to corruption and absolutism. This is exactly why I support secularism, a state where religion cannot be used against people and for political gains. This is not the un-Islamic thing, but rather the only islamic thing to do. The Quran clearly forbids such worship of Sheikhs (9:31). it also tells that individuals are responsible for their OWN actions and that God gave us free will and intellect to test if we do the right thing. All the three estates of the state and the personal lives of individuals need not be policed by a bunch of Sheikhs who claims to be men of God. May Allah save us from his followers that have gone astray. Amen.

religious tolerance and respecting religions.

[yawn.its been like more than two months since my last post? yeah, dat and its been dat long since i started this post. it was hanging there unfinished, till tonight i finally decided to complete and publish it.so here goes another post. and there are more stuff (not about religion) in the drafts.as i said earlier,im just too lazy to blog anymore.or maybe i say it all in on twitter,facebook and other people's blogs.]

Salman Rushdie's Satanic Verses, Catoons of Mohamed on the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten, a film made by Theo van Gogh (for which he was mudered) and many other such events lead to protests and bloodshed. Sorry that i have only mentioned only incidents related to Islam..its just that we get more news about Islamic intolerance than any other religion (you can blame it on the western media if you like or blame it on me or say there are more muslims in the world or simply accept the fact ..your choice. I am not implying anything here). Besides, this religion is closer to me than any other religion......Alrite, here is a Hindu intolerance incident; last year Bajrangdal activists attacked christian churches and people, responding to mass convertion of Hindus to Christianity. And the moral policing thing by hindutva activists who attacks women in pubs and attack people celebrating Valentines day.Generally speaking, most religions have these 'issues' with non believers... but followers of some religions express them more openly. it should also be noted that some religions have been reformed and evolved over the centuries, to fit in to the modern pluralistic societies..

why all these violent reaction?. why dont you guys let god protect his religion , and just calm down for sometime? Maybe he will strike these people with a thunder bolt or inflict eternal and uttermost torture when they die and go to his hell. O ye who believe; i hate to break this for you but if that is your religious obligation to make sure those who insult your religious sentiments are punished, then you are doing a really crappy job. because these insults are inevitable. Even if one dont say it out loud, everyone who dont follow your religion are 'saying' it. You have to punish em all. so we can say religious tolerance for the most part is kind of an oxymoron...atleast amongst the major religions. These major and dominant religions of the world aint capable of tolerance by their very nature but they all demand respect and tolerance. how exactly does one tolerate and respect a religion? im not really sure, but people say we should be respectful of other people's believes and never say anything which could insult them. but this is very wrong. religious tolerance is defined as "the condition of accepting or permitting others' religious beliefs and practices which disagree with one's own". permitting and accepting is not the same as respecting and not saying a word against them.

unbelievers are always insulting believers:
Let me expalin; religious groups have their own set of beliefs which they say are certainly true. For example religion X claims that person xx is a prophet and he was contacted by God. For those who dont believe in this claim usually there are two logical explanations:
(1) this guy (xx) is lying. or (2) this guy is crazy...or maybe both.

usually if they rule out these 'accusations', then they become believers in that religion. So, everyone who dont believe in that religion are accusing prophet xx to be either insane or a liar. This applies to all religions (almost). ..(dearest peaceful, sword wielding protectors of the most peaceful religion; i am talking about all religions in general. mmmkayyy?all of them. so calm down)

an example:
This can be applied to more detailed stuff about a belief system and not just prophethood. Here is a good example; Polygamy is permitted in mormonism and it is said that their founder Joseph Smith took more than 30 wives (including already married women). This could not be seen in a good light unless you are a mormon. you will probably think this guy is a selfish horny bastard who took advantage of superstitious, gullible people and his authority over them.What else could one think? This is so obvious. Ofcourse like all religions, mormons try to deny or justify it. For the believers of this religion, their prophet is the holiest and is infallible. Either this report is untrue or there is some other 'explanation' for this. Some of them say it is God's will and quotes what mr.smith said was the reason behind it; "by revelation—the saints of the Lord are always directed by revelation".

It does not take a second for a non-believer in Mormonism to recognise what is going on here. But the believers, blinded by their faith, do not smell anything fishy here. When a non-believer in their religion points out the obvious fact, they are insulted and hurt. Everyone is hurting them unless they believe it was infact God's will and done in accordance to revelation. So the only way to respect and honour a religion is believing them. as most religions claim to be the only true religion, one cant really believe in all religions....and this is how respecting religions (in the sense they demand us to)become impossible.

Freedom of Speech and feelings of believers:
What ive said so far does not mean religious tolerance is impossible.It is possible and necessary, but not at the cost of eliminating freedom of speech. A line should be drawn somewhere, and i dont think that line should be drawn by making religions too respectful to be even criticized. Because religions have an opinion about every single thing, and if we find it unacceptable, we are entitled to say so. That is freedom of speech. And if a group of people are insulted because of an opinion someone else hold against their personal beliefs, then every single human being will be insulted all the time. because every individual is different from the rest. If religion has to be respected so much that we cant even talk about them, so should the political ideologies, operating systems,taste of music, art or food, web browsers etc. And then we will all end up being hypocrites who praise even the things that we dislike and despise.

the religious texts of some religions are full of insults to people of other faiths, unbelievers or people who disobey their religious commands or leaves it totally. These insults and threats are cut out in their holy books. Now can we alter the word of God to make sure there is tolerance? no we cant. so these will remain as they are.This is rooted in the fact that most religions claim to be the only way to salvation and the only true religion. By this claim they are accusing others to be misguided, saying they will burn eternally in hell, they are dumb for not seeing the ‘obvious’ truth, they need to be guided or forced towards the right path etc. The Bible have a passages where Jesus calls jews the children of the Devil, liars etc. Church leaders have called Jews 'Christ killers'. Muslim recite Surah Al-Fatihah atleast 17 times every day. In this surah they call Jews 'those who have earned God's anger' and the Christians are called 'those who went astray'. Fearing that i may 'insult' some people i will not mention the several Hadiths which will hurt the feelings of non-muslims and people of certain faiths here. There are prophecies, like the muslim belief they will kill all jews before the judgement day comes, or fundamentalist christian belief that the temple mount will be reconstructed before the second coming of Christ (which means muslims will lose the middle east conflict in the end)…all these insult other religions. True, today we do not find wars among religion like earlier times. but we still have the same texts with us, will this hypocrisy of undeserved and childish respect for all religions hold off the violence? i dont think so.

Respect is something which has to be earned. give respect to get respect! when you are cursing people for their personal choices which does not harm any other human being, for simply not believing what you believe, for expressing their opinions etc... dont you dare talk about respect. I dont really understand why the fuck we have to be respectful about religions. after all blasphemy is a victimless crime. one man's prayers is another man's blasphemy. one man's eternal truth, for another could be the biggest load of bullshit hez ever heard. (dont believe me? how many maldivians think scientology is NOT bullshit and NOT stupid?)

let us say... human beings ends up (because of some UN resolution like this maybe?) being hypocrites who cannot say anything critical of religions...then what happens? would there be religious tolerance?? They say religions need to be protected and respected unconditionally, even when they are plain stupid or when people of these beliefs dont respect other people's beliefs and ways of life. hell, they dont even respect another human being's right to live sometimes (sometimes based on their beliefs, sexual preference..etc). some beliefs just cannot be respected, or tolerated. for example jihadi islam which calls for war and world domination.

So, where exactly do we draw that line about respecting? wafa sultan said it all to a mullah while speaking live on jazeera tv. She said; "brother, you can believe in stones, as long as you don't throw them at me". right there. believe what ever the fuck you want to, but dont try impose it on others or to mess with other people's lives. That is where the line should be drawn. If someone says your religions sucks you need not be insulted, because it is a fact that he/she thinks so. But if someone attack you on the street because you believe a certain thing, that is a problem. well...not always...depends on what kind of crap you believe in. if they are violent and threatening other people, you deserve it. rational fear of a religion is no phobia at all. and it is definitely not hate. it is a justified fear...for example fear of a religious group who practice human sacrifice or terrorism is only natural. then again, stereotyping and generalising aint good either. its a totally different issue which i may discuss some other time.

personally i dont respect beliefs of other people because if dont believe it, i think they are fuckin stuhpid and unworthy of my respect. otherwise i would believe it in the first place. the reason i dont believe it is because it is unbelievable and stupid. however, i DO respect people's right to believe whatever they want to believe, as long as it does not harm anyone else. believe what ever the hell you want. believe in the flying spaghetti monster or the invisible pink unicorn. believe in barney the pink dinosaur and tinkerrbell. believe in your personal god who protects your family and lives under your bed. believe everything you can. i respect your right to believe. but there is no way on earth i will respect irrational beliefs. i will not just disrespect those beliefs which i think are dangerous to the society, i will despise them and refute them.some one believing that he will rise from the dead and smoke two ciggarettes does not really bother me. but beliefs that are widely accepted and are related to my life, our lives, our problems,suffering in the world..etc everyone should speak against them.i may hate a belief system for the harm it does, but it does not mean i hate the believers. I may sympathize with them because they are victims of these beliefs.

... religious tolerance has it's limits and is not the same as unconditional respect for religions.respecting other people's belief is impossible and stupid but respecting other people's right to believe what ever they want to -as long as it does not harm the society- is important. Religious tolerance is important but due to the nature of most religions, very difficult to achieve. however, CAN achieve it. we abolished slavery even when in the eyes of major religions it was not a crime. the problem is not people who criticize religions, but those who act like they have been raped when ever their religion is criticized. mankind should over come this insanity in order to pursue religious tolerance. The way to peaceful coexistence of religions is not by hushing the critics of religions, but curing the lunatics who goes into a hyperventilating fit of rage everytime their personal beliefs are criticized.

regarding the mvblogs censorship issue;

mvblogs should know that it represents the maldivian blogosphere. not maldivian hetero,islamic,politically correct or conservative blogosphere.it is just the blogosphere of maldivians.but there are certain things i want to point out:

1.mvblogs admins should decide what they consider to be a blog? what is eligible for being listed. there are certain news websites, some political party websites. for example, is the presidential website a blog? if i copy and paste pictures from google images, just anything i get. with no point in it. thousands and thousands of pictures. it that a blog? if i write boohaahaa. and publish it everyday. the same thing everyday. is that an eligible blog?blogs made for marketing reasons , are these eligible?these need to be discussed. so, then you can decide if gay/hetero porn is really blogging. pornography is free speech, i agree.. but is it blogging? that is for the admins to decide.

2.I also noticed that there are minors on the blogosphere who must not be exposed to adult content. most blogs do no ask to verify age. for example my blog sometimes have filth which should not be viewed by minors. but i think i cant stop writing because of that. personally i believe this is an issue parents should take care of.and the authourities should make sure they do. there is no way we can stop children like we did before.they will do it anyway...ok now im deviating...so.. the point is; as an official website which caters to people of different ages/belief systems, mvblogs should adress this issue. atleast for the kids. leave the belief systems; if they are offended, they can leave.they are offended by mere disbelief of others. no one can help that.

one way is to classify blogs in to categories, including porn or just generally adult content.and make sure users have to register or/and confirm age in order to view the website. so that; if a minor is visiting, the adult blogs will not be shown.

3. there are stuff other than porn which should not be viewed by minors. like blogs using extremely filthy language. i like these, they are fun to read. but children have to be protected from these. again it is for the admins to dicide. they can make this an adult only website and leave it for the parents to protect children from it. but i think children should not be kicked out.

4.censoring for any other reason, other than to protect kids is unacceptable. unless you decide that porn is not blogging. there should not be any discrimination between gay and straight porn if so. if you censor unislamic blogs to save your arses i wont blame you. you have a right to live. but i think it would be far more honourable not to continue it than to continue it with no freedom.remember...tolerance of intolerance is cowardice. i think you should not give in to such pressures. but it is up to you guys. its ur lives that are at stake.

besides, we can go on without mvblogs. with rss feed readers and follow funtion on blogger, we are connected even without mvblogs. i dont visit mvblogs.org as often as i did. therez just too much noise there. but i do visit ocassionally. and find new interesting blogs..wish you guys luck. hope you wont let us bloggers down. you cant make everyone happy.just do what you feel is right.maybe im missing somethings.im sleepy and bored.cant think any more. or write any longer.i wasnt planning on bloggin but had to post this one anyway. what every you do, thank you mvblogs.

i dunno what is wrong with me. even during the busiest times ive ever been through i keep my blog(s) updated. i read and comment on blogs.i even blogged from my mobile when i dont have internet. i read blogs from my mobile for one whole month. i read stuff on the net, watch stuff on the tubes and flickr. but now it’s all gone.

I am kinda bizee right now.. but i think, generally it’s just layzee. im fukin bored and lazy. im frusty and dusty.im unfit and fucked. im in the kingdom of boredom.i think i AM the king of boredom. ok, what ever. exams are near and im gettin nervous. now i think i know why i get nervous like this. Last week i was a lab rat for psychology students in their practical exams and the teacher told me after an experiment that i am 4 percent extrovert. that; i already knew. im an extreme introvert, i always know that.even when I was a kid. but wtf? 84 percent neurotic too?!! duh. stuhpid psychology. i think that is too much, even for me. i dont want to go all exameee here, ok. coz exams come and go all the time. that is what we do. we do exams, we get jobs and then we die.

so.. what was i sayin? oh.. yeah. i was gonna rant. not about me, but about this thing which came to my mind today. Have you ever thought; "wtf is a first lady?"? it is a name give to a married, heterosexual, monogamous, president's wife. from the wikipedia article i understood it originated from USA- like many other bullcrap the world have got today. in the US they refer to wives of other executives like governors also by that name. they even have a special page on the whitehouse website for the president’s wife. Today i read in an associated press news article; someone was referring to the first lady as co-president. Stuhpid fuckers let Hilary Clinton mess up their health care system. Laura Bush gave a press conference at the Whitehouse briefing room, calling the Burmese government to accept foreign aids.So much for first ladies in the US.
I just don’t get these things.i just dont. Is there any chance that one day, women will run for first lady? What would their debates be about, I wonder. Sex and taking care of their husbands? or would it be like a beauty contest? Or will it be about their intellectualy capability? naah. it wont be an issue, no one cares about it when electing a president also.

i was wondering how did it make to Maldives? There is no official document which oblige us to call the president's wife by that name.but hey, we hear it all the time in the media. In the government media too, including the official documents of the office of the President. So we use it anyway.we are a bunch of idiots who believe and accept anything they say. you say name it, we'll buy it! thats us. Usually , in many countries like the US , these women do some interesting stuff. like charity or social work or sometimes gets involved in politics. We didn’t get to see many first ladies; the last one had this NGO which did a lot of work. It had outdone the national thalassaemia centre in fighting thalassaemia. impressive eh? Shez a strong woman. we are proud of her. she was able to make the president forgive her brother and include him in the cabinet even after he was guilty of corruption and tried to kill the president. Another interesting thing about her is that she did not wear the burugaa (veil) like most of the Maldivian women now do. No one could force her to do that. and apparently it was something a lot of Maldivians were very very concerned about. Maybe a valid concern given that, (apparently) God takes a lot of interest in these matters. These minute details about the tiny island nation's first lady's dresscode. He is so serious about this that from time to time he sends tsunamis and heavy rain; just as a simple reminder.what can we say,he is the all seeing all powerful. But I think, instead of crying out ayahs from the Quran and call Gayoom irreligious, the concerned people of Maldives could have solved it much more easily. just go to the 'first' lady and say this- very politely: "hey ma'm. Who do you think pay for your clothes, eh? we do! so when we say wear the veil, you wear the fuckin veil. no excuses, ok!" Well, if we should take so much interest in the personal affairs of the president (like who he sleeps with), we might as well try this. wouldn’t hurt to ask for that much.btw, Is there any allowance for the first lady? Under Article 102 of the constitution, the majlis have to decide on the salaries and benefits of the President. I bet there will be a huge sum of money for her in that.

It is not even a real job or post. It’s like 'intern to the chief' – the one which George gets to be in grey's anatomy. He is just an intern. She is just a wife. Just because the president screws her all the time doesn’t make her any special than other women. If it is so, what would happen when a womanizer becomes the president? Every girl he fucks becomes a numbered lady?then we might end up with the threehundred and first lady soon….Now dont give me that crap about marriage is not that and blah blah. i already know it. but even if love and commitment is brought in here, still doesn’t make any difference. She is still his wife. Okkkk... maybe it’s how things are, even if for no good reason. Alright then!! she is special. And we call her first lady anyway. I have no problem with that. maybe.But there are some serious questions which come to my mind, when i think about this. So i will just share some of these here. These issues should be discussed in the parliament, i am sure these are much more serious and important than most of the crap that goes on in there now.

It seems, if the president is a woman (naoozubillahi, milobuvethinvathan islaankan mathee abadhah) there will be a first gentleman. I think the same will apply if the president is gay and married to a guy (naoozubillahi, may he save us from the fate of sodom). Also, i have read that the vice-president's wife is sometimes called the second lady.

But what if, instead if instead of Anni, Gasim was elected president this time? would his second wife be called that (second lady)? would we then, have a third lady. too? and possibly a fourth lady. How do we give numbers to them? is it done by the order of the consummation of marriage? what if he divorces his first wife then marries her again? would she be first again, or should she be demoted to third?

Is it fair that Gasim gets paid from government funds for all his wives and Gayoom got paid for one only? To make it fair, should we give the sum of money for four wives even if the president have only one wife? What if a sheikh from Adhaalath party is elected president and he wants four wives and jaariyaas (sex slaves)? Should we build a harem for him? Should we not include anything about the first lady in the constitution or in our laws? are there any now?

Another piece of information i would like to share with you; "Graça Machel,is the third wife of former South African president Nelson Mandela and the widow of the late Mozambican president Samora Machel". she was the first lady of two countries. Maldivians doesnt seem to like this, which is why they wanted to bar Dr. Hassan Saeed from running for presidency just because he is married to a malaysian. But isnt that his own problem? So what, Anni's wife is a Maldivian but that does not mean he cant have an affair with a foreigner, let alone a threesome. It is also possible that he fall in love with a foreigner. If that thing against foreign first ladies was passed, would Anni have to step down if he falls in love with a foriegner? Is that a matter of national security? Maybe they would lock his dick and password protect it with a combination of two passwords - one for the 'first lady' one for the head of the Military. Cant be too careful, its a matter of national security.

Well, i think its enough to make you think about this. I can come up with few more questions like this. but im sleepy. that's my thing now. i sleep. that's all folks! duty calls, i gotta go.

its a lil late maybe. but i just wanted to congratulate all of us on this historical occasion of kicking out a brutal dictator who ruled over us -with extreme power, in which ever manner he wished- for 30 consecutive years. yup, i may have a problem with my short term memory and i maybe insane. but i still mean all that. father of democracy? oh puleeeez, he is the same gayoom. we maybe in 'aneh dhivehi raajje' but that does not change facts (is the world flat now? Duh), or is everything upside down in aneh Dhivehi raaje?).

I really liked and is happy for and am proud of the example of democracy, maldivian people and leaders have shown in this election. how Anni and Gayoom adressed the people and how Anni did not want revenge or how gayoom have been offered security and pension. I do like the fact that Gayoom decided to stay with us. i believe in goodness in humans. I dint know what to say after watching that on TVM. i never saw that coming.Gayoom accepting defeat and Anni not taking things personally, how the people united against gayoom, how the people used the power of the ballot to achieve this, how peacefully they did this...everything is amazing and i am very very happy to see this day turning out like this

..........But still the facts will remain as they are. A theif will never say he is a thief (especially when he is a very good liar). This is not a matter of Anni's personal feelings towards Gayom. This has nothing to do with how humble he is. Do something else to prove that (try forgiving gayoom for your personal sufferings). Only the people can forgive Gayoom. This is just like Gayoom forgiving his brother in law and putting him back in the cabinet (and we forgot that too) or how he forgive dangerous criminals as afuaamu, to show that he is 'ghafoor-ur-raheem'. How could he?, when those money belong to Maldivian people.

I may not be very religious, but i do knowhow these kinda stuff work with God.... God have forbidden forgiving of this sort for himself. Things God can not (by his own will) forgive include; taking away the rights of other people, or harming another person unjustly. So inorder to get in to paradise, these people should be forgiven by their victims. Or another deal is to transfer their good deeds to the victim's account (if the sinner is out of credit, then he should transfer bad deeds from the victim's account and suffer for those).naaeeees.

my point is; that it is a good thing...something we can be proud of..that Gayoom is still with us, that he is safe and is being given all his rights and all the credit he deserve (if nothing else, it could make him feel reallybad inside maybe.heehee.). But stuff he does not deserve (like saying he brought democracy to maldives) should not be given, and justice should be served. we've got a lot of cleaning up (the mess he made) to do and a lot of rebuilding to do, i understand. but we should never forget the facts and the truth.

once again i congratulate the people of maldives, the opposition leaders, Anni, and Gayom for being so civilised and showing that good example of democracy.this is a happy moment.a turning point.a new dawn.a beginning, not an end.

atulaaastu. i have some flork the international. one of the funniest dhivehi comedies ever. but its not just me, every one live FTI.after i posted bakhabaru here on my blog people have been asking me continuously if i have cant publish FTI (like i have access to the video libraries of TVM!).Cmon it just came my way. i ripped the dvd, edited (cropped, joined,made em 3 files) and published it. so i just had to wait for FTI to come my way.

This time it was on youtube. midnightmaldives had these on her/his playlist. I just ripped em and joined the files to make each FTI episode a single video file. Looks like makunu(and jinni)dhoo story is the big news now. so i thot i will write something 'bout it here.

today someone was talking of a new conspiracy theory regarding the fight between MNFF (maldives national fanditha force) and the army of angry jinni parents whose children were accidently hit by human kids (AOAJPWCWAHBHK).

...this one is interesting, you might like this and many people might actually believe this. it seems that 'the big well CD' is not the only CD or fanditha man who was banished to that island. another politician-fandithaman like him, who is also a famous astrologer and a believer in superstitions from many different cultures was there for 5 months. this guy (commonly known as golhaa) was sent there in the month of may....now..35 years later..in the same month, this has become serious he said .."because if this man have to come down; the jinns who helped him also must come down with him". it seems that the jinns are making excuses to take over the island and make the people move to another island (e rah falhu kollaafa).maybe zaeem have promised that land for them. who knows, if humans can kill so many people for a 'promised land' why cant the jinns do the same. :P

ok enuf of dat...and whats wrong with the authorities? it seems they are also treating this as a jinni case. arresting the 'evil' fandithaman and allowing the 'good' fanditha men to work while psychiatrists are totally ignored. the anonymous psychiatrist talking to haveeru must have watched the famous bollywood psychological thriller of last year; "bhool bhulaiyaa". and dr.mauroof (a medical doctor, not a sheikh) thinks these kinda things must be treated with the quran so that it wont have any side effects.

this is more like barney. the song goes like this..."barney is a dinosaur from our imagination"....just like the jinns. and it ends like this..."barney can be your friend too, if you just make-believe him!"...its basically the same thing with jinns (except we seriously believe in them).

its always those who believe jinns that see them. in this case the whole island believes and the whole island is suffering. fear of jinni is more than fear of allah among common maldivians. fear of jinni -like the fear of hell fire- is used to lure people in to a more religious lifestyles sometimes. It is believed that maldivians have been superstitous even before islam. but after islam, all the previously believed evil beings came to be known as different types of jinns. if abul barakath was a raelist or a believer of any other UFO religion like scientology...we would believe they are all aliens. but the truth is ... they are all in our imagination! just like barney.we can kill them simply by disbelieving in them.

I have this habit of doodling in my classes (not only classes when i am at work also) ...i dunno when i started that. i dont remember any time i didnt do it. But i never keep em with me. how ever last year i have uploaded few stuff to my deviantart account (coz i dint have anything else to put there). and since the end of last year i have been doodling some sense..i mean some stuff like comic strips and things which could make sense to people other than me.

i was lateron inspired by bulhaa and her comic strips. and after she started talking about quitting and thinking woody and blobs aint good any more. i said i will upload some of the crap i doodle (some of which might make sense) to show that even the crap i make can be uploaded to my blog and viewed by many people...and possibly liked by some (or atleast get get some feed back- negative or supportive).

But to be honest that is not it....it is not just about woody and blobs. alright, im the biggest fan of woody and blobs but i have my own reasons for this and a little bit of no-reasons (what ever that means) also. i believe, with time these doodles will evolve and become something totally awesome or legggeennn........ wait for it........ darryyy! (to understand the magnitude of awesomeness im refering to...say it like barney does).

ok..maybe im dreaming. but thats half of it...the rest is whether i could make my lazy arse take this a bit seriously at some point. maybe i might. maybe this would end. or maybe this will always be limited to the doodles in the class room or work. what ever it become is not my concern now. now i want to publish it. because as some one (last time i saw this was on some msn contact's pm..im thinking about giving a "best pm of the week" award. starting from next week maybe). ok.... so anyway this pm said:

A short Intro:

This is the first time i drew this character. i must have created hundreds of characters like this (including stick figures) in the 22 long years on planet earth. but finally; recently i was thinking of developing a character who will stay with me for sometime (longer than the others do atleast). with some characteristics instead of just a figure. I drew this little green man..like an alien with a round face and a teletubby like antenna on its head. i drew him several times...and btw his name is nowhereman. actually he is not what he appears to be. it is how he sees himself. He wont have any name. he is just a nowhereman (as in the beatles song) . for his mom he is son, for his teacher he is student, for his friends he is friend. he have no identity whatsoever. i even thought of making him faceless (literally).

and one day i was thinking of showing his real self like hobbes is sometimes shown in my favourite strip; calvin and hobbes (the influence of it on nowhereman is obvious and cannot be hidden). and this boy u see now is that character i created later. so in the end; the whole thing changed upside down. now this will be the default self of nowhere man you will see. and the other alien like guy will appear sometimes. i dunno why that happened...maybe i liked this guy or this is easier to sketch than the other one.

know that all of the stuff i am posting now is sketched with a pen on my notebook or any piece of paper i find. this is carefully and secretively done while the teacher is trying to teach something (kids, dont try this at skool all teachers are not equally blind or careless)...and finally i took pictures of it, did a little photoshopping and added speech balloons to it (to hide my ugly handwriting...which my mom describes as bulhaa vakidhamaafa hunnahen).

so much about this from me. now its ur turn. will need feedback to improve or know i suck at this (and still not quit n keep on doing it until some one pays me to stop or i get bored of this).

Mein Hoon Na, Har Dhandi Ya.

"Main Hoon Na" means 'I am Here' in Hindi and Urdu languages. It is used to express that you are there for some one even if no one else is. To show that you will always be there when needed. Or to simply mean that 'I am here (so you don't worry)' in situations where you can be of help.

This is also the name of a successful Bollywood film of 2004. After this film's success, it have become a very common phrase used, even by Maldivians sometimes. But what does it means in Dhivehi language?

It is kinda funny, but it does mean something in Dhivehi also. though it is not pronounced exactly in the same way by native speakers of Hindi (a slight difference). But when Maldivians use it both (Dhivehi and Hindi phrase) sounds exctly the same. It is like "meyhoonaa". How ever, this must be followed by a similar sounding phrase; "Harudhandiyaa" if we want to make sense of it in Dhivehi according to the radheef (but i guess meyhoonaa alone also means something). So, if we write it in Romanagari (how hindi is written in roman script) it will now look like :

"Mein Hoon Na, Har Dhandi Ya"

It is a Dhivehi figure of speech which is used to express hunger and having no food to eat. It literally means;

"(my) chest is warm (like burning from hunger); (i am) still (like a person in sleep) and stiff (like a dead body)".

Here is the radheef definition:

މޭހޫނާހަރުދަނޑިޔާ
މަޖާޒު: ކާނެ އެއްވެސް އެއްޗެއް ނެތީމާ ބުނެއުޅޭ ބަހެއް

So 'Mein Hoon Na, Har Dhandi Ya' or simply 'Mein Hoon Na' in Dhivehi language means; "I am very very hungry".

'Dictator' Nasir and 'Reformist' Zaeem.

We all know that Gayom really really hates Ibrahim Nasir. More than anything, it is the personal hatred because he was jailed and banished by Nasir. He later spread many stories of how much he was tortured - the truth of which i am not certain of. But until Nasir left the country to live in exile; Gayom was speaking very nice of him. In his first speech as president, Gayom praised Nasir as a hero, a great leader who did so much good to our country.

But after he left the country, things started to change. Allegedly there was an attempted coup (to get back his power) after which demonstrations and horrible anti-Nasir songs were recorded and distributed. Some songs were even played on national radio; people say. There were cartoons of Ibrahim Nasir on the roads, on news papers. These songs and cartoons were used in the demonstrations.

Gayom revoked Nasir's 'Kilege' title and a stone in the Male' international airport -which stated that airport was officially opened by Ibrahim Nasir- was thrown in to the sea, and was later replaced with something about Gayom reopening the airport. The prison where Gayom was allegedly tortured was destroyed and made in to the Biggest mosque in country and the center for brainwashing the people with the new version of Islam Gayom brought from Egypt. The hero of Maldives' independence was pushed aside and on independence days we hear only the semi- mythical holy jihad tales from olden days . Gayom often make sure he does not to even mention Nasir's name in his speeches.

No matter how jealous Gayom is with Nasir, or how much he hates him; history will have lot more good things to say about Nasir than about Gayom. Not that he did not do anything bad, but he is actually the father of modernization and development in Maldives, he laid the foundations of almost everything gayom failed to develop. Maybe that is why Zaeem hate him. Because he did everything Zaeem could have done (and take exaggerated credit along with titles and awards) if it wasn't already done.

Now we are seeing the same kind of thing against Gayyoom. But still (being civilized maybe?) i think we are unable to top Gayyoom and his reformists in that. DO lava party is nothing compared to the auguraana, death threats..etc in those songs. Koto is nothing when compared to those cartoons. Demonstrations of that caliber have never been held against Gayom. But it is said that 'history repeats itself'. Lets just hope it stops repeating from the point a new government is formed.Coz we don't want another golhaa.

There are many ways of displaying thaana on web (or elsewhere). Typing in Accent, using reverse fonts on Adobe Pagemaker, and using a little application called a 'recorder' are some ways. Of these the last one can be used to blog in dhivehi, but i really hate it. It is kinda what is used on websites like the maldivian and gives a lot of trouble. Anyway, most of us would agree that Unicode thaana font is the modern and best way of doing it.If you are not clear, i'm talking about what is sometimes called the xp fonts.Websites like jazeera daily use this type.

To blog like this you should have thaana typing enabled on your computer. Here is how you could do it in windows xp. This will usually require the windows xp CD.

Now lets assume that you can type in thaana , but all that is in a horrible font called 'Mv Boli'. If you want you can get rid of this and have cool new font. After you do that, you will see all webpages in that new font you chose.You wont have to install any font now , to view websites using unicode fonts.

But still there is another problem; would every one get rid of boli font? nop. Not every one will know how to do that, and even if they does some people just wont bother. So that means YOU will have to make sure , what you write in your blog (in thaana) is readable for others as well. Like this blog . To view this blog you will have to install 'faruma' font ( the font he uses on that blog).then you will see it clearly even without getting rid of boli font. This is what we will learn now. How to do this.

This guy do it in a very easy way. He type what he want on Microsoft Word in faruma font. Now he just select all, copy and paste the stuff on his blogger. and its perfect.So this is very simple.you should also try this first.

I have never tried that, though i have seen him do it.Because I type my posts on blogger itself.I dont type elsewhere and copy it.so lets look into my method:

Open a new post on blogger, go to the "Edit Html" tab on the right top corner. and then put this code there.

Faruma is the font I am using here, however you can change the font name as you desire.

You can now go to 'Compose' tab on top right corner, align the text to right hand side and then adjust the font size as you want it.Now you are ready to start blogging in thaana. just keep on typing and when you are done publish it.

But remember; before you publish the post write a title in ENGLISH. because if the title is in dhivehi, blogger will automatically assign 'blog post' as the title of that post. which means trouble. however i think you can publish it first in english and then again go back and edit/republish it with a thaana heading.what ever the case is, the thaana heading WONT be displayed in the font you use (in this case faruma), but it will be in the viewers default font (usually mv boli).

If you intend to blog in thaana frequently, it would be helpful for the readers if you place a font download link in your side bar.

I'm sure there are other ways of doing this, maybe much easier ways.but until our geeky bloggers come up with something brilliant, hope this will help.

Maldivian Classical Zuvaabu.

Here is what she is saying (how i heard it):

"manjey..hO!farukolhuga ey e' aee. govaigen edhiyaee farukolhuga.ho ho ho ho ho hoh.govaigen edhiyaee atholhuverin. hooooh! aan.Dhen ovey.....dhen ovey, farukolhuga egendhiyaee..faru kolhugai edhiyaee govaigen; annaanee atholhuverin govaigen. aaagh! hoooh!"

Though this is not a very civilized thing to do it indeed is/was a part of Maldivian culture, i should say. this is what a classic zuvaabu would look like. i just wanted to share this...as this old (not so kool) custom of zuvaabu is uncommon nowadays. Parents would not send children to these zuvaabu scenes as it is usually an 18+ form of arguing, challenging and expressing anger, hatred, jealousy..or simply just mockery and angering the opponent. people say... that they even go to the extent when they would lift the kandiki (skirt) and hit on their private part and ..point at the opponent and say challengingly ; "mine is fairer than yours!"... as for guys they would also do same kinda thing by lifting their mundu (sarong) and hanging it on their head sometimes. It was earlier done in the form of raivaru poetry, which lead to the death of it as an art form...because it was used in this way...giving rise to a vulgar, abusive form of raivaru.

how uncivilized this may seem, it is far better than box cutter/sword attacks and home made bombs. maybe we could teach this to the whole world, so that it can replace war. then maldives could be the superpower maybe. ehehe. but ive seen similar zuvaabu in India though not this advanced. and here is an interesting zuvaabu from Muhammaa kalo's 'Bunyey bunyey'. i dont find him funny at all but i kinda liked that one; based on a real story from his island (ihavandhoo).

India's tour to Australia will go on after Harbhajan Singh was cleared of racially abusing Andrew Symonds at an appeal hearing in Adelaide yesterday. Harbhajan pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of using abusive language and was fined half his match fee [read more]

In this controversy about an Indian cricket player using racially abusive language to the Australian guy in a match, Symonds said that Harbajan was calling him a Monkey, or yelling "Big Monkey" which he found to be a racist comment. however later it was known that Harbajan was acually saying "Teri maa ki" (which as we all know means.. your mother's...).but... Maakee, Monkey.. sounds similar. so, that is how the Australians heard it. hehehe..

I think that's not even abusive.If he would have completed it Teri maa ki choot or something, yes it could have been abuse. but just "your mother's" is not abusive i guess.. maybe your mother's beautiful face... who knows. and even if it was abusive, the aussie guy was not pissed off because of that...it was his own misheard version that angered him. He did not even understand that 'abuse', so how can that be abusive.

anyway...after an appeal the racial abuse charge was downgraded to that of using offensive language of a seriously insulting nature. The lesser charge carried only a financial penalty and the three-match ban was lifted.

btw, can calling someone a monkey be considered as "racist"? i think it is specist. it is a shame for the monkeys... i dont think they would like that.

4 pedophiles (who gang raped a 12 year old after breaking in to her house breakin the window with an axe have been sentenced to 2 years banishment and 15 lashes. and our human rights (or is it prisoners' rights) commision actually congratulated this . well... there was an improvement if you can call that; before this high court sentence (after an appeal)...it was even worse. then it was 8 months banishment only, for just 'consensual sexual intercourse'!!!.... but congratulate?!! can we congratulate the rapists for just raping her and not murdering her afterwards?

and a lady who burned her 10 year old brother with a heated iron was sentenced to 6 months banishment.

These sentences are childabuse.

I believe that revealing the identity along with pictures of these rapists to the public is an important matter, and must be done so in the interest of the public. because we at least have a right to know rapists who are let loose, so that we may protect our children from them. And this is a responsibility of home ministry. but instead they even freaking helped them cover their faces from journalists, when taken in and out of justice building. but why is it? police often publicize pictures of people even before they have been sentenced, take for example the case of the sultan park terror attack and the recent vodka bust. how are these child molesters special?

its seems our ministries and government offices work on public outrage engines...so we should pressure them and they would act.but no one seems to be doing this. has there ever been a protest against/for any such thing. its always the freaking golha they are after. have any confidential document or picture of such a person been exposed on DO? leaked?....not even our superstar actors and actresses at 'the majlis show' care about this. they are busy with aa gaanoonu baa gaanoonu debate.

and if this picture (taken from DO) is unedited and authentic... they are really giving the 'faathin finger' to all of us. sayin:" fuckers! i get more kids to rape...so fuck you!"

btw, i wouldn't dare to say this is a problem in our justice system because we stick to the textual interpretation of islamic texts and the fundamentalist view of islamic shariah...or the problem is in shariah itself. becase Dr.Afrasheem the islamic scholar who said music is permitted in islam is in trouble now...hail dhivehistan! hail vahudhathu!

Today is marked as Poets' day in Maldives.It is marked in the memory of the famous orator and poet; late Mr. Ibrahim Shihab.Thought i would share some old dhivehi poetry.This is a 'lava' or song lyrics famous through out Maldives.There are many versions of this, i myself heard around 3 different versions from Kaafu atoll Kaashidhoo Island alone. The poet is unknown.And this was popularized later by the famous singer late Naifaru Dhohokko.The year and origin of this song remains unknown.

23 years: A Study of the Prophetic Career of Mohammad is a a Persian book authored by the Iranian scholar, thinker, journalist, politician, MP and writer; Ali Dashti (1894-1981/2). This is an English translation of the book by F. R. C. Bagley.

The book was written in 1937 (before the Islamic revolution) but was published anonymously, probably in 1974, in Beirut, since the Shah’s regime forbade the publication of criticism of religion that time.Even after the revolution, Dashti was not left alone for this type of free thinking, he died in 1981/82 after spending three years in Khomeini’s prisons, where he was tortured even though he was 83 at that time.

It is said that Dashti told a friend before he died; "Had the shah allowed books like this to be published and read by the people, we would never have had an Islamic revolution". and i believe this is one good reason why Maldivians (at least those who use the 3 pound of flesh up there) should read this book.This will give you a good understanding of Islam and believe me; this is no Salman Rushdie nor is he an Islam hater. Being well versed in Islam, born and brought up in an Islamic community (much more Islamic than Maldives for sure); Dashti praises Mohamed where it is unavoidable but also criticizes him and muslims while justifying them with good reasoning. He cites sources from Islamic texts and sometimes criticizes orientalists for their biased or shallow views of Islam and Mohamed.

A very interesting thing I found in this book was that the 'revelations' and the personality of prophet Mohamed also changed after the Hijra.He describes this change as a 'a messiah being transformed into a David'. But this is not the only interesting thing in the book (though i don't agree to all that is in it). This book is not only about the prophet and his (personal and prophetic) life, it is also about the religion, about the politics and the period after the prophet's death.

I think what Dashti have given here is the right approach to study Islam or any religion for that matter.Because if we are believing even before we know about the religion or the prophet, we will be blind to see anything wrong. And if we are angry with a religion before we even know what this religion actually is about, we will be blind to see the good in it.

I believe, if healthy criticism like this and such debate is allowed, we will not see an intolerant, narrow minded, terror minded breed of muslims growing in Maldives. And just like Dashti said; "If the 'shah' of Maldives allowed books like this to be published and read by the people, we would never have a mushrooming of extremism".

on 08th january 2008 president of Maldives, Al Usthaaz Maumoon Abdul Gayom was greeting his supporters on a campaign trip to haa alif atoll hoarafushi island when a 20 year old guy (mohamed murushid) took out a kitchen knife wrapped in the maldivian national flag, said 'allahu akbar' and tried to stab the president.But a 16 year old boy scout (mohamed jaisham) saw this and prevented him from stabbing the president. wooohooo! this is amazing. jaisham was injured (it went through his left hand while trying to hold the knife) but the president was unhurt."thanks to mohamed jaisham and allah!" said gayoom. and he also said..."differences of opinion between us doesnt mean we have to attack each other or kill each other, the political parties should also be more matured".Now this is clearly accusing the political parties of trying to kill him, without any evidence... i think the national unity alliance should not take this lightly. there is something fishy about this 'attack' (something...more than the tuna in the maldives' scout logo).

what was murushid's motives??..he said 'allaahu akbaru', but does that mean it has something to do with islamic extremism? now this is becoming common. they have created an enemy to point fingers at when anything bad happens. extremists are bad but...this is not their way, they will want to blow themselves up and get the houris instantly. i don't think it is political either. but maybe personal. maybe this guy Really really REALLY hates gayom. but why didn't the bodyguards notice him.and gayom is really careful about his life, he's not mahatma gandhi..we all know who this guy is.what ever.... time will tell, maybe.

Another big question is; was it the president he was attacking? was it the DRP zaeemu? or was it the chief scout or the general? or was it the highest authority and protector of the tenets of islam in maldives?

there are some interesting things about this event.especially about the boy scout part.Gayom is the chief scout of maldives.and robert baden powell, the founder of scouting died on 08th january 1941.and also galileo galilei died on that day in 1642 and elvis presley was born on the same day 1935.... not a bad day to die eh? ... but once again 'thanx to mohamed jaisham and allah!', he didn't.

getting serious about HIV/AIDS.

A Society for Health Education (SHE) research have revealed that 29 percent of people below 18 years of age have sex (ofcourse outside marriage) in Maldives. Among 14 percent of boys and 15 percent of girls of this age group most have sex with more than one person and usually without any safety measures. It also revealed that 99 percent of Maldivians know what AIDS is.

It is true that most people do know AIDS is dangerous, and know much information about AIDS (government have done a good job in this i must say). But still people are not very serious about it.This year in the 60th World Health Assembly, it was passed to grant USD 2.6 Million for the Maldives HIV project from the Global Fund , i wonder how they will spend it.Some 1 million dollar program with the tag line "machaa, vaguthee ufaluge baiveriya AIDS" maybe. i really do think that a lot of effort is needed to make people take this more seriously.Not that they aren't doing anything but it is just not enough and i cant believe them when they say we are safe. More data have to be collected to see the real picture instead of being content with 'only 3 of 3 lakh is positive' thing..

Last month Department of Public Health (DPH) have announced that 13 Maldivians (11 men and 2 women) have carried HIV virus and of them, only 3 are alive now.But how do we know there aren't many more? Probabilities of HIV/AID (and/or other STDs) spreading in Maldives is very high.In a country of 3 lakh with a closely knit society and a giant sexual network, if only 3 of 3 lakh is infected we are nothing but god damn LUCKY! You know, we all are interrelated in one way or another. Lets look in to the possibilities .... with this story (or what ever this is) :

Maldives' sexual network...
Ali Didi is a business man in Male'.He owns two toy shops in Majeedhee magu.This guy who is in his 40's lives in Male' but travels to bangkok frequently, on 'business trips'.On these business trips he spend few days after his work is done just to enjoy.And every night he have an invited guest to sleep with him (sometimes licensed sometime illegal road prostitutes).

Ali Di's brother Ibrahim Didi have recently returned to Maldives after 3 Years working as a seaman (what we call boattudhathurukurun). He really enjoyed it there, especially the sex.At brothels, and even from young prostitutes who come on board when they are at certain ports.Ibrahim Di went to his Island and started a business there, now with Ali Di's help he can stay home with family and work there (thank you Ali Di).

Ibrahim Di's Eldest son Vishah works in a Tourist Resort near the Capital Male', he is now visiting his island.Working in a tourist resort is fun for Vishah.Working in the water sports section; he often creates close relationships with visitors and some staff (foreign and local) too...and ofcourse have great sex. Now that he is in his Island, he needs locals to replace those friends.He have a 'serious girl friend' there. But he also found this lady in her 30's - married to a 50 year old fisherman- very interesting. Vishah now contacts a friend and gives her the message. Well... the next day at dawn just as the fishermen left for work...Vishah goes in to that house...and all the doors were open .... Bang bang! (gud that this time he did not have to go through the window as he does at midnight when he goes in to rooms secretly..in the islands this is called meehunkairiahvanun, a very common thing).

Now, This fisherman husband of the lady... this pervert ...is interested in children.He is able to lure some kidsn his island.But when he is in Male' he always hires drug addict underage girls...and Bang Bang!

and...one of them was aazimaa. She has a boy friend (jawish) who is also a drug addict.But recently she have broken up with him ...after she discovered that she is in a 'serious' relation ship with zaahiya a 13 year old in Ameeniya.And yeah when Jawish's gang have little stuff in store, and cant afford more...sometimes they make 'heroin solution' with lime and any other stuff they like.This solution is mixed and heated on a table spoon and injected...all using the same needle.

Ali Di's wife lives in a small 3 room apartment in Maafannu ,with her children. Zahiya is the youngest of them.Then there is Fathin (the bisexual, who was caught under a staircase in Ameeniya with nasreena - Jawish's new Gf.) and the eldest Rashida.Rashida left to SriLanka for higher education 2 years back. She lives in a two room Apartment with 3 other girls in Lanka. She dont have a serious boy friend now, but some 'friends with benefits'. One of them she met last month from a Disco (it was 'dhivehi ecstasy'..and yeah...ecstasy and other party drugs were used there) organized by the Maldivian students there.His name is Malli...Malli is very special for Rashida, but she don't want to go into a serious relationship...but ehhe..ofcourse... there is Bang Bang!day and night!

NOW , WHAT IF:

Monica with whom Vishah once had sex had HIV.... who and who are at risk? or for example..Malli was infected? or someone else.... How many of them take safety measures? ...i dunno... if vishah gets married to that 'serious' he had at the island. what will happen? ...and make more possibilities for yourself.

There was an increase of condom use rate from 6% in 1999 to 9% in 2004 , but that is only about married people.Data on the high risk groups are not available and i couldn't find any recent data on this.Ive heard this is one of the lowest rates (considering the small population)...when things are like this people still hesitates to buy condoms in Maldives. And i have read this 1992 article (an year after the arrival of HIV to Maldives) on NYtimes ... which says " In the tiny island nation of Maldives, condoms can be sold only to married couples." i dunno how true it is...but still it would be illegal for unmarried people to use it (but now i dont think they ask for that information).whats more... with everything else the condom prices too have hiked up in Male' from Rf.7 to 12 (that's ordinary ones.some even above 15 ive heard).

Talking about Screening
Screening for HIV was initiated in 1991 , but how many Maldivians have been screened so far? I personally know only 2 people.Sometimes when you are away from home for sometime they force you to screen on return.But Sometimes that is. And did you read on a weekly magazine (i think adduvas) about some movie stars screening for HIV? well, Mariyam Nisha was one...i dont remember others, and the news article 'exposing' this seems as is they have done something horrible or something one must never do.But i think they were brave for doing it (bravo mollywood stars..leading by example :p).This shows how HIV screening is viewed in Maldives. It is something like; if you screen for HIV then you are a whore! but now we can screen in secrecy (but what remains a secret in maldives?).

Who and who shall screen?I think every single person should make it their personal responsibility to screen themselves.Is it only whores who can carry HIV? nop. your serious or what ever partner can also carry it.Especially if you know you are not the first one he/she is having sex with.And does registering a relationship in the name of God (a marriage) nullify the possibility of getting infected? Nop, a married person can carry the infection too.When so many people cheating in relationships and marriages should we trust them (risking our lives)? well...i know every one must trust his/her partner.But should the authorities trust?Why don't we make it a rule to screen before marriage....oh.. i dunno about the cost involved.

So... the bottom line is; don't be so assured that you are all safe.Because ...you are not!!!Which ever way you choose to do it, your safety is your responsibility.Safety always comes first!!!

reserving majlis seats for women.

Jazeera reports that a special majlis (constitutional assembly) session had ended in dismay , over some amendment to guarantee 10 seats of the parliament only for women for a period of 10 years.As the president's appointed member (also the first ever female attorney general of maldives) aishath azima shukoor tried to introduce this ammendment; the majlis' speaker and Finance Minister gasim ibrahim rejected it.

what happened next is; public infrastructure minister mauroof jameel,gender minsiter aishath mohamed didi, ex-women's minister rashida yusuf,president's appointed members,Ibrahim Shafiu,mohamed saleem, mariyam nooruddeen,dhiyana saeed,Lubna Mohamed Zahir hussein(shaviyani atoll member),mariya ahmed didi (Male' atoll member),riyaz rasheed (thaa atoll),Mohamed Maseeh (gn atoll)...they all stood up in protest, some even walked out.and majlis session was ended.

and then they talk about the pace of the constitutional reforms.bullshit. now, im not defending what gasim did or criticizing him. but i just dont like this reserving seats for women thing at all.And minivannews calls it a 'a positive discrimination amendment'. call it what ever you will , but this is just crazy.

First of all, is it necessary to have women in the parliament for their voices to be heard?I mean, an MP is a representative of the people, and 'people' here include; light skinned,dark skinned,skinny, fat, female,male,cross eyed,introverted,extroverted...etc etc..citizens of maldives.If azima thinks her gender has to be 'especially' represented by reserving seats, she can try the same for people of her size, after all they too have rights. right?...err. maybe thatd be of a prob, we might have to reconstruct the majlis building..what ever.

Secondly, even if it is necessary ( assuming more than half the female population cannot trust male representatives) ...still.. reserving seats is not an option. they can climb all the way by them selves.after all we are empowering and empowering them day after day.

Another thing is even if seats are reserved, the same ol people ( the guys with money) will be ruling...so nothing new and special for the females becoz of that.This would be a more open call for such buying of seats.because there aren't many ladies interested in politics (let alone being an MP), and this will give chance for the fake female MPs who will buy seats and act as puppets.

And...politically empowering women is not the real problem maldivian women are facing today.it is social (and economic) empowerment.even if it there is some on the political side... there more problems arising from implementing stages.How they are treated in/by the society is what needs to be changed most.

These people dont hear the womens' cry..no! they are nothing but a bunch of selfish,materialist, politicians.Take pakistan or india for example.India most preferably; they have empowered women politically ages (1950's) before we even heard/thought of it.in that huge constitution- the biggest, they call it..But i have seen (in some areas) women are treated more like 'property' than individuals.wife beating? yes, rape? yes... still the women victims are often found guilty in the society.What about maldives? with religious extremism on the rise.. things are getting worse for the female population.and that wouldn't have happened if 10 of the mps were female? what if God.. all of a sudden changes some 10 MaleMps to female... "kaboom!" and the Maldivian women are empowered and happy?

I dont find any use in changing the masks.wont make any difference... but it is ..yes it is DISCRIMINATION!All maldivians are equal...and some maldivians are more equal?No way. it is unjust.so it is bull shit.that's what it is.The stuff we find all over India, the holy shit!as this guy says;

The Blessed Court Reforms.

i just read this article on haveeru , about dress code inside the courts.Apparently wearing a head gear inside a court is not allowed and the judge made a guy remove a 'cone' he was wearing.As i was reading i discovered it is a bad thing to wear collarless T-shirts when entering the court.And whats more... even 'fen faivaan' , the most common type of sandals (pic4) is also inappropriate. wearing shorts (i guess even 3/4 jeans) and the writer even mentioned sarongs (especially the type tourists wear...the ordinary squared and lined ones are better, i guess) and sunglasses .

did i mention the face veil? it is now completely banned from the courts.the human rights commission of Maldives described this ban as "a human rights violation".The commission member ahmed abdul kareem said ... "if there is need to check their identity, female staff can do so; but face veiling should not be banned completely".

"No haibathu - fibre- (is seen from people, because of the way they are dressed).These people enter the court (being dressed) in which ever manner they wish to.one might be wearing a thaakihaa (muslim head cap) another might be wearing fenfaivaan (ordinary sandal.see pic 4). Letting these people enter a court (like this) is totally unacceptable". said the ex justice minister mohamed jamee l.

With 'the sweeping reforms' making our lives 'better'; from last year onwards the judges and magistrates at courts have to be in suits. and now it is time for the people who enter the court to follow similar rules.... i just found the rules regarding the dress code, released by the ministry of justice here. People should follow these rules in their dress code (if not they would be banned from the court) :

1. It must be a dress that does not hide the persons identity (eg: by covering face)

2. must not wear revealing clothes,short Shorts, collarless T-Shirts,tracksuits, clothes with inappropriate texts on them.

3.Must not wear; any clothing that typify unislamic expressions, or any of such ornaments on any part of the body.

4.Any dress that is banned inside the court by and order of the court.

5.under point 2 , exceptions are made for people who have to wear a uniform ordained by the government.

good lord. we need more of these reforms for a bright future.

I think the rules are still way too relaxed.i mean, the exceptions for people government uniforms, not specifically mentioning ;boiler suit, girls' dress with bandhu,or nor sepcific rules regarding undergarments...these and many other problems are still there.So, i suggesr a better way to do this! a court uniform.Here are some suggestions for more reform:

1.every one must make ablution before entering the court. court is a place for protecting the shariah - which is holy, and people should therefore show some respect and haibathu there.

2.Every one should be wearing the court uniform (or the court gown).
here is a sample of what a court gown could look like (with collar of course,and preferably with an additional waist bandhu.) :

3. to make things easy for the beloved people of Maldives, we can keep a changing room at the entrance of the courts with an ablution area, and toilets.

4.Anyone who disobeys these rules shall be punished.

A classical understanding sees the world primarily as underlying form itself. A romantic understanding sees it primarily in terms of immediate appearance. It has no appeal because the reality he sees is its surface. Dull, complex lists of names, lines and numbers. Nothing interesting. But if you were to show the same blueprint or schematic or give the same description to a classical person he might look at it and then become fascinated by it because he sees that within the lines and shapes and symbols is a tremendous richness of underlying form.

The romantic mode is primarily inspirational, imaginative, creative, intuitive. Feelings rather than facts predominate. "Art" when it is opposed to "Science" is often romantic. It does not proceed by reason or by laws. It proceeds by feeling, intuition and esthetic conscience. In the northern European cultures the romantic mode is usually associated with femininity, but this is certainly not a necessary association.

The classic mode, by contrast, proceeds by reason and by laws...which are themselves underlying forms of thought and behavior. In the European cultures it is primarily a masculine mode and the fields of science, law and medicine are unattractive to women largely for this reason. Although motorcycle riding is romantic, motorcycle maintenance is purely classic. The dirt, the grease, the mastery of underlying form required all give it such a negative romantic appeal that women never go near it.

Although surface ugliness is often found in the classic mode of understanding it is not inherent in it. There is a classic esthetic which romantics often miss because of its subtlety. The classic style is straightforward, unadorned, unemotional, economical and carefully proportioned. Its purpose is not to inspire emotionally, but to bring order out of chaos and make the unknown known. It is not an esthet- ically free and natural style. It is esthetically restrained. Everything is under control. Its value is measured in terms of the skill with which this control is maintained.

To a romantic this classic mode often appears dull, awkward and ugly, like mechanical maintenance itself. Everything is in terms of pieces and parts and components and relationships. Nothing is figured out until it's run through the computer a dozen times. Everything's got to be measured and proved. Oppressive. Heavy. Endlessly grey. The death force.

Within the classic mode, however, the romantic has some appearances of his own. Frivolous, irrational, erratic, untrustworthy, interested primarily in pleasure-seeking. Shallow. Of no substance. Often a parasite who cannot or will not carry his own weight. A real drag on society. By now these battle lines should sound a little familiar.

This is the source of the trouble. Persons tend to think and feel exclusively in one mode or the other and in doing so tend to misunderstand and underestimate what the other mode is all about. But no one is willing to give up the truth as he sees it, and as far as I know, no one now living has any real reconciliation of these truths or modes. There is no point at which these visions of reality are unified.

And so in recent times we have seen a huge split develop between a classic culture and a romantic counterculture...two worlds growingly alienated and hateful toward each other with everyone wondering if it will always be this way, a house divided against itself. No one wants it really...despite what his antagonists in the other dimension might think."

why a secular maldives?

we will get a basic human right; freedom of religion.a huge barrier between us and freedom would comedown shattered!our judicial system would be much freer.we would be getting rid of an often manipulated,crazy method of social control.our children would no longer be injected with canonical doctrines created for the advantage of some very few people in the society.we would start thinking about problems (personal,national and at all levels) more seriously, in terms of what we should do for our benefit (rather than what we should do according to a certain religion), 'the opium of the people' could be turned in to something more useful or more creative (secularism doesn't have to be getting rid of religions-following a certain country or countries is not the point, we do it our way), and i believe we would be treated more equally ,no discrimination on the basis of religion or beliefs (lets hope so, atleast).well there goes some.guess that would do for now. what do you guys think? pour out what's on your mind.

Freedom and Shariah.

Chapter 2 (The Maldivian Charter of rights and freedoms) article 4 (Freedom from restraint) of the new draft constitution says:

"A citizen is free to engage in any conduct or activity that is expressly prohibited by law. No control or restraint maybe exercised against any person unless it is expressly authorized by law. "

now special majilis G.Dh memeber Abbas (brother in law of Gayom) wanted to ammend this to include ... "...expressly prohibited by law and Shariah". why should shariah come there? i mean ... it is not a clearly defined thing. what is bad in shariah for me might be what is the best in shariah for him.what i am trying to say is shariah is not a very clearly defined thing and there is no agreement among islamic scholars on most of the matters.So, i can interpret shariah any way i want, because there is no list of people who can interpret shariah given in the holy texts.

None but the government only knows what the hell 'ghairu qaanoonee' is. but when someothing becomes 'ghairu qaanoonee' they could be punished severely (a ghairuqaanoonee loud speaker can be confiscated,star force can crack down on any ghariqaanoonee assembly....and so on).

and the good news is ... for what ever reason... this amendment was not passed from the special majilis.so it would remain as it is for now.and this was condemned by many people as an act against islam and a step towards secularism.Those who voted against this are Ibra,Xray Athif,Kaanal,Shihab (all Male' members) ,Gn Atoll memeber Modi and President's appointed member ahmed zahir.I think this is some thing good they did.what Maldives needs is a secular state.This hundred percent Islam myth have to be ended now.This is just single step... there is so much we need to do (only if any one there cares about this.)

It seems after the terror blast the government of Maldives is tightening the grip on all islamic groups.

Under the despotic law of 'protecting the islamic unity of maldives' the president have asked the Islamic council to ban face veiling in public, dressing or behaving in a manner which resembles -in any way- religous denominationalism.In other words they trying to find a way to make things hard for all islamic groups in maldives [read more].

This type of reaction from the government is nothing new. this had happened many times, crack down on wahhabis they call it... they would arrest people and shave off their beards, force them to keep their trousers below ankle (which,according to them is like being in hell),and even take off face veils of women (which will be for them as if removing their clothes).This kind of unacceptable acts of the government is doing nothing except for fueling the wild fire of extremism.This will move elements from more moderate islamic groups in to the stricter and therefore more dangerous people.What i am trying to say is , a bearded guy or a preaching bearded guy is not our business, not a threat to our national security. but bearded or not...a terror minded jihadi muslim is a threat to our country and we should keep an eye on them...when necessary punish them.but a crack down on all bearded or faceveiled people is not just...and very stupid.

Extremism is a serious issue which have to be dealt wisely and professionally.it shouldnt be like the old majeedhee magu paving project or nerugovvun projects our government carried out.because this is no ordinary thing we are dealing with.religous ideologies or thinking cannot be killed by force.it should be killed (if needed) by better ideologies.You all know they have read the story of ashaabul uhdhoodh from Bukhari collection of Hadiths.In that story people are burned alive for what they believe but they prefered death to giving in.This (the strong faith in what they believe...what ever they may believe) is what drives a young boy,well educated, loved by every one... changes in to a hated monster that wants to kill people.Strengthening the 'islamic unity' itself is a threat to our future. This kind of 'strengthening' will take the rights of islamic groups and will create a violent reaction. A group of religious extremists Gaafu Alifu atoll Maamendhoo are not praying with the common congregation ... now they are praying in the mosque after the common congregation...should we attack them too?!What ever his intention is...Sheikh Shaheem of Adalat party have showed that these people can be softened down by talking to them or discussing religious issues with them instead of releasing a canonic way of doing everything from the president's office and punishing those who disobey.

It is the hypocrisy of Maldives government when it comes to religion ...that have created a breeding ground for jihadi islamic movements and islamic extremism in maldives.For example; we are told that we should follow Quran and Hadith...but we are lied about them.Lies which are so evident that even the kids will know some thing is wrong in those fatwas.Now when this happens children turns to islamic books or websites originating from saudi arabia or saudi funded groups, looking for answers.These will lay a foundation for the wahhabi islam.Now from this stage a person may develop in to anything...just a salafi,a follower of political islam (hizb-ut-tahrir/ikhwanul muslimeen?) or to a houri seeking jihadi muslim.I am not saying that it is their right to preach terrorism. but we cant define what the limits are ,as long as we try to strengthen the 'islamic unity' by force.Let it come by its own (if there is any such thing as an islamic unity) .

I think what we need to cultivate is not islamic unity and hatred for other religions.what we need is an free society, a free environment in which religious tolerance,humanism, and brotherhood would prosper.For this to happen we need social change as well as political change.To bring about this we need education,awareness,change of policies and a secular state or atleast a state with freedom of religion.A state which wouldn't threaten to kill a person for choosing his or her own way of life or belief or for discussing a religious topic freely.Religion have to become more spiritual rather than being a 'dividing-in-the-name-of-uniting' force.Hate and violence would give nothing but hate and violence.The government should understand that these islamic groups too are maldivian citizens, faceveiled women and bearded men are our people..parents to our children...if you jail them beat them up just for what they believe or how they dress..it would be very unjust.I have known so far that .... two leaders of the dotcom group (the guys behind the bomb plot) have fled Maldives.This is what we need to concentrate on... bringing the violent and the terror breeding to justice and tackling the extremism problem ideologically.

ive seen this sometime back also,but again came across it yesterday and thought i would share it here.some guy talking about music and 'dhivehi' music; in dhivehi language.there is an ebook by this guy named Mohamed Jameel (no, not the thauleem dhiyaanaa one).This book is about music theory (all in dhivehi language) .i love music,i listen to it (...some times play it..u know...like..drumming on table, on my lap ,sometimes humming,and screaming out songs sometimes), but i am totally ignorant of the theory part,so i dunno how to judge this one. you guys got to see this for your self and decide.here is the page:

I guess you all must have heard of yesterday's terror attack .well, i was going to rant on this and first i googled for 'maldives terrorism'...and then google asked me, "did you mean; maldives tourism?".

There were thousands of results but what is commonly associated with maldives is tourism, not terrorism.how ever yesterday's news was covered by hundreds of news outlets around the globe.This struck me so much.It have been sometime since we started to talk about terror minded narrow minded groups of saudi and pakistan educated (some even trained at Islamic military camps) growing in maldives.But we just talked, we didnt do any thing. now they have stricken. is this the beginning?no, this cant be, but we've got work to do.Leave the political fights aside and lets concentrate on this serious issue at hand.we should be united, not divided by this.

Yesterday's attack injured 12 tourists (2 Japanese,2 British, 8 Chinese),and- i believe- it was an attack on tourists, by whom else? the houri seeking jihadi bastards.i know there is an investigation going on (who am i to make judgments now?).But who else would attack the golden egg laying goose? This is indeed an attack on the Maldivian economy,Maldivian peace,The Paradise Image (err..this have been distorted by the politicians too).This was like attacking the Maldivian people (all dhivehin), attacking the Maldives.And interestingly yesterday was 17th of Ramadan for Maldives, which was the day of Badr (it is believed that on this day of battle against non-muslim arabs,the Islamic army lead by the prophet himself was victorious and even got help from angels sent from heaven).

now lets see who these people are.you call em haabees or wahhabis.But i call em terrorists.but remember; not all bearded poeple or haabees would do this kinda things.Although i dont like em all in general...special attention have to be given to the Jihadi extremist factions.This Jihadi mentality was among most of the islamists in Maldives until saudi arabia started reforming the wahabi doctrines (well...even they were under attack..so gotta mild things down).The neo salafi movement came to maldives too and saved a lot of Maldivians from becoming terrorists.and there were 'moderate' (well..not that moderate but certainly not suicide bombers) islamists , many of whom belong to the Adalat party today.these people also chose the non-violent way for some reason.And now going back to the topic of jihadi extremism... almost all of these people believe in Jihad and wants to see a day mulims will be united under one leader and ruling the world.But the people who go in to action are only the Jihadis , most of whom are Takfiris (meanin they would consider most of maldivian muslims as kaafaru or infidels), which makes me think that, they wouldn't hesitate to attack a place full of Maldivians (most likely a disco party, a restaurant or something).

And about the leaders and hubs of these people;Late Sheikh Mohamed Ibrahim of Babul avaalee house (who was a wahhabi missionary assigned to Maldives by the Saudi government,was even paid during the first years) was one .his followers are mostly old people now,he also gained many followers from the prisons ( he spent most of his life in prison and house arrest).And then later on another leader came; the infamous Sheikh Fareed, who gained popularity from almost extremist groups until he joined MDP. and then there is one barstard who is linked to foriegn/global terror groups ; Ali Jaleel of H.Moscow ge (he is a pakistan trained terrorist, and ameer for maldives of a Global jihadi group).I have previously blogged about him and his gang here.i would also like to introduce you to the red bearded Sayyid Ahmed (commonly known as seedhibe').This guy is not a sheikh but he seems to gather more people around him than a sheikh.His house in front of zikuraa mosque(majeedhee magu) in Male' became the hub of jihadis starting from the year 2001 and still is a place for gathering, making prayer congregations and preaching for these people.The house is commonly known as 'dotcom'.There were splits within this dotcom gang and later on many of them became followers of ali jaleel.Seedhee have his wife and children in H.DhKulhudhuffushi, to whom he doesnt give any attention to and are living in extreme poverty despite the fact he owns a land in Male' (He have sold/is trying to sell the place to some one,and might be spending these money for developing his terror network).You would see him around Male' carrying a bag, selling stuff like toys,torchlights or similar imported goods, but next time check his bag, he will have extremist books (books even the islamic council of Maldives wouldnt pass) which he sometimes sell sometimes gives for free.

I have been away from Maldives for sometime and do not know of the latest developments withing these factions, but one thing i know for sure is they are growing,and becoming more organised.they have sent people to islands with leaflets,audio and video tapes calling for a global Jihad against 'infidel opression'.I saw these video clips last week on Raajjetv, which were taken from propaganda tapes of binladen and other jihadi groups and dubbed in dhivehi.some were slightly edited and other created including pictures of buildings made from foreign aid and even a picture of Gayom shaking hands with US ex-prez Clinton on his tsunami trip to maldives.Many of these video's were calling for Jihad,and they even mocked Gayom's sheikhs,Adalat Sheikhs and other Salafi sheikhs for not joining them.They seem to have formed an official Jihadi group.

The bottom line is , i am not sure and should not be sure about the people behind this attack, only the police investigation will prove it.some are pointing their fingers at yamin and gangs, other as at MDP and gangs.but i think it is most likely an 'Islamic' terrorist attack.And even if it is not, we should be careful about these people.and who ever might be behind this attack,they are our enemies.They attacked Maldives.arseholes!I condemn this attack as an attack on all Maldivians.

MSDP and Computerized Palmistry.

The Nizaamee Campaign was very much different from any other campaign.There were so many 'reasons', why we should choose a Parliamentary/Presidential system (from, just opposing Gayom's choice to supporting the movie stars' choice) presented throughout the campaign period.

On one of those days i was walking by the MSDP (Maldives Social Democratic Party) office, and noticed a banner, on which was written: 'Raajje beynun vanee furihama riyaasee nizaameh' or 'What Maldives need is a perfect presidential system'.

and that wasn't it...i was suprised to see what was on the wall opposing that office (Nooru miskiy's wall) was written in big, yellow letters.....

'mi qaumah beynunvanee computarun ai balaa meeheh' or 'What this country needs is a person who practice computerized palmistry'.lol.

This was a reference to the MSDP leader Reeko Ibrahim Manik (elder brother of the 'superstar', MDP member, Reeko Moosa).It is said that this guy have been in to palmistry since a long time ago. and from the last time he returned Maldives after years of 'boathu dhathuru kurun' (working as a seaman)... he started practicing Computerised Palmistry.I dont know whether he does it now (after becoming a political leader),but i do know people who have gone to him and believes that he actually is a good and professional palmist.

agree? well, i believe this is a very true statement.We all do agree (to some extent) that life in this world is much about suffering... at least Buddha did.But how can we set our self free from this?is there any way to liberate yourself from the dungeon of life?is there any way to break free from the shackles of this reality?any way to leave this mortal body?

There are ways of getting rid of these problems, the noble eight fold path was proposed by the Siddhartha, and religions offer another way (which is; following only that particular religion),and there are others who escape from life's problems.Like suicide, escapism is also a nice concept which i shall discuss some other time.The matter in hand is , how we can attain liberation.Escapism is temporary,we need a permanent one,an everlasting one.what i am proposing here is Suicide.Yes, you got it right, suicide!Killing one's own self.I believe it gives instant liberation...and there is no way you can disprove it.

but a question arises now; what happens after this liberation?even i don't know.Almost all religions say there is something good 'up' there.For most religions it is only reserved for those who believed in that particular religion;others are simply damned or punished eternally in a burning fire called Hell,so things become a little bit risky and stinky in this theory.But in some religions or belief systems any person generally 'Good' will be rewarded, in an exclusively pleasant place called heaven.Others believe that we will have to return to the damned life again,but at some point of this cycle of life and birth... we will be liberated if we deserve it.others believe that we are only a material body with a high consciousness (than other animals) ,or as some put it; "just a group of mammals damned with consciousness!"which means when we are dead, we are Dead !

So, basically we are not sure about what will happen to us after death.but does that disprove the proposed method of liberation?nop,i dont think so! What ever happens after death, we are liberated from this life, that is the point here.I am not claiming that this is a 'live happily ever after' ending .I am not guaranteeing eternal happiness with this, I am only proposing a way to attain instant liberation from this plague called life!

But i wouldn't recommend this for anyone, nor am i going to do this.so,don't try this!

this is about the nizaamee vote or the constitutional referendum to determine the system of government preferred by the people of maldives. i don't like divisions; but yes, you can see me talking about 'us' and 'them' here. by 'us', i mean the citizens of maldives, who are supposedly choosing a system of governance they believe is best for their future.and by 'them' i am referring to the political parties, in particular MDP and DRP.

Now its seems that this is a vote to choose between Gayom and MDP.I personally supported Presidential System (but damn it! i wasnt able to vote.) , but does that mean i supported Gayom? not really...however many people think so.We voted for our future..its about us, our future,our country.This is NOT a vote to decide whether we support Gayom or MDP.I wanted what is good for us.(so did many others like... shihab and chopey)

Ibrahim Shafiu, chief spokesman and poll co-ordinator for Gayom's Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP), said: "We are confident of victory. We have an early lead of more than 50 per cent and I think that is an endorsement that President Gayoom's reform agenda is genuine.And though we are a little off track in the progress of reforms, clearly the larger proportion of Maldivians still has faith in the governance of the president."[source]

And Haveerudaily have reported that Gayom is talking the same rubbish.According to haveeru ; he thanked maldivians who voted in the referendum, and said that the people have now given the government “massive support” to go ahead with 'his Reform Agenda'.

but ironically (well, dont be surrised.. he is a master of this....) he was also unhappy about this.therefore he also said that he did not believe that the referendum was a confidence vote in him because people voted for a system.and also said that it was the combined effort of DRP and the three parties (MSDP,IDP and Adalat) which supported the presidential system.[source]

Hellloo...this is about us! stop dreaming and come down to reality.Gayom, you are still the dictator,the criminal.so don't go on blabbering around, saying that YOU have WON.

but on a second thought,i would have to say that... i don't care even if gayom does that. because im not pro-gayom or pro-MDP... im pro-reform.Let us put the old man out of the picture..instead of making him the center of whatsoever happens in this country.The people of Maldives have CHOSEN a a system of governance for their future.We don't have to choose between MDP and Gayom!

and about vote rigging in this referendum...well, he always do that... and that have to be investigated.but was it the rigging behind the victory for presidential system? well... that also have to be investigated.and if that is the case....hmm.. thats' another story.. but don't go on making this a party business!

Seen here is the 'Tharaagandu' at K.Atoll Kaashidhoo(Picture taken from kaashidhoo.net)..It is said to be the remains of a Buddhist monastry which dates back to 12th century AD.

Archaeological excavations of this Buddhist temple/monastry , by a research team, from the
University of Oslo, Norway, was begun in 1996, on the island of Kaashidhoo.These extcavations were continued in 1997 and 1998. The team was led by Professor Egil Mikkelsen of Norway. After the excavations, the ruins were covered by plastic, sand and stones to protect them from destruction.

Ivisited the place just when they discovered some corpses there .I heard that the research team will be leaving soon.that means the work will no be continued.Again after an year i went back to kaashidhoo and discovered that it was a play ground for children.they would go and pee in to the ancient well there.they would break parts of the historical remains of the temple(some kids even brought it to the house i was staying in).I was not shocked. because my house is not far from ali rasagefaanu Ziyaarai (in Male') ,which was a junk heap until it was renovated and opened for tourists in October 2002.And he was mulim mujahid..... no wonder they wont give a damn about the remains of a Buddhist temple!!

There are several other Ziyaarais or shrines of Maldivian saints and heroes which have been neglected and even destroyed by the government.You all will know the area called Lonu ziyaarai kolhu, no more ziyaarai is there now.They even stopped Maldivian cultural festivals like Maaloodhu.My said that the giraavaru people practiced their traditional thaarajehun and vajidhuvun until it was banned by the government.

And then there is Dhivehi language.so many words used in different islands..are lost day after day...i dont think any effort is made to collect these words and document em(even jaa have done more than what they do by giving us the radheed free).and i thnak maldivesroyalfamily.com and maldivesculture.com for all the information ive got from them about my country,its culture and heritage.

Bodu beru is some thing almost all maldivians like...but no work is done to promote it.,they keep on saying youth are going more and more western and no one is interested in maldivian culture.

talking about history..i guess yo will know that maldivian history is re-written in a way some one wanted it to be.ive already mentioned what he did to maldivian historian , shafeeq.

and.i dunno.i was just watching TVM there was this seminar about culture going on.The brother in law of Gayom; Abbas Ibrahim -who is the 'president' (lol) the National Centre for Linguistic and Historical Research thanked gayom for many things and then awarded him something, apparently for being the savior of maldivian culture.After sometime the gayom himself was speaking about maldvian culture.he started by saying that Quran Mushaf (printed copies of the Quran) are the biggest maldivian heritage as we are muslims...and after sometimes i thought i was in Islam class.he was talking about mushaful uthman and mushaful imaam and about how the Quran was revealed and how it was collected.how some prints of the Quran were burnt and one single copy was made the canonical print.and how it was sent to syria,egypt,and many other countries.and i dunnno what happened next i have started writing this post by that time.

"muneerukee ganduvaruge vokkolhu alikurevvi fadhain alhuge hiy alikuravvaa faandheyve".how many of you know this thing?I learned this from my mom, i had to recite that aloud after her voice...she would be saying it after the shahadhai.There is another version of this thingy, which says 'hithaai loa' instead of just hiy.

It can be translated as "(O lord!Illumine my heart [and my eyes-(in the other version)] as you have illuminated the lamp of muneeru kee palace"

the last part...muneeru kee might mean in urdu muneer's...so it can be said as lamp of muneer's palace...if that is the case...muneeru might be a place or a person.the word muneeru..i think has its roots in the arabic word noor..which means light.muneer means..brilliant or shining. so it is all to do with a light...a bright light...which have it's source in a lamp...some kinda holy lamp (because it is vohkolhu)...

as a kid when my mom dictates that and when i myself recite it after her voice...i used to think of a bright golden light, a palace which is illuminated with a golden light... and it have some thingy hung somewhere in the middle of it ... and this light comes from it...and spreads to the whole palace, illuminating it...and then through a small window ...it comes out and these needle-rays strike my chest (heart).....when the light touches me i can feel it.thats how it was to me, back then.thats what i felt about this thing.

actually , it is some kinda prayer to illuminate our hearts (and for some, the eyes too).illuminate might have two meanings here:1. to become bright (characterized by quickness and ease in learning)
or
2.it is about the light of truth (in this case islam) entering in to our hearts.
A hadith says that every time a muslim gives in to temptation or sins...a black dot covers his heart and finally after days without repentance the whole heart is covered with this...and then it is sealed and no light (of guidance) would enter it after that..this is referred to in the Quran 83:14. and there is also a similar prayer which prophet Mohamed recited at dawn:

"O God , illuminate my heart with light, and my eyes with light and my ears with light and let there be light on my right and light on my left. Let there be light above me and light below me, let there be light in front of me and light behind me. O God, make me a light"(Sahih al-Bukhari Vol. 8 p. 221-2)

yet,i dont know what this thing really is.i dont know the origin of this utterance.but i do know that many people says it..and still many dictate it to their children at bed time.and i dont think there is anything wrong with that...though some might make takfir of (consider to be an infidel who have to be behaded) those who do this because they think it is bid'ah, while others may condemn it saying it is part of Arab colonialists' propaganda to take over Maldives and their rumaafalhi. heheh

and oh! this muneerukee thing reminds me of the good ol bed times.i would have to brush my teeth,wash face...and most importantly wash my feet (the command line for sending us kids to bed includes washing feet...bas ahaigen dhefai dhovegen sahaadhai kiyaigen nidhan oshoavey.)...and i would go to sleep after reciting the shahadhai (with this muneerukee ganduvaru part) and after i used to blow three times on my chest... now,im ready to sleep...but if i talk to any one or say anything at all after this....i would have to start everything over again....from shahaadhai. :S

if we are a group of kids....we would cover ourselves with the blanket or pillow and talk secretly (telling stories sometimes)..imagining ourselves to be in some kinda tent.

usually i would be sent to sleep when the damn CNN starts (that would be break time of the hindi movie they send every thursday night on TVM)...now i have to do some thing....i make up the other half...usually i would be in that half...hehe..most probably some superhero guy.and the rest i would see sometimes in my dreams....but what if i didnt watch one half of a movies?...still there is another way.My cousin bro, jiz taught me that...he said he do act as if putting some tape in to a VCR before going to sleep...then he would take the (imaginary) remote control and press play button....and lie back and relax..and start dreaming up the movie...and the rest would come (in dreams) sometimes.....i also tried this many times.

and..drinking water before going to bet and......errrr...cuticura powder?.. aaaghh! there are too many fragments of childhood memories tagged 'bed time' ...so before this post become the longest post ive ever made..ill stop here..

btw...have u every tried any of these things as a kid? your mom dictate you shahaadhai?and most importantly ,was muneerukee ganduvaru ge vokkolhu known to you before?

Maldives is undergoing democratic changes (sweeping reforms?hehe) they say.but the society is undergoing declinations of various forms among which is religious extremism.It have been there for a long time,but after the tsunami there was an epidemic outbreak of fundamentalism.it is not about a group of people,it is about a large sector of the Maldivian society.and it sure is not only about burugaa,beard and the jokes MDP propaganda machines create (like the one which said that madharusathul aaliyaa is a fundamentalist 'madrasa').

Now i can see that the media have finally taken a step forward,now they are writing about this part of our society which have been long ignored.I am glad that our information minister also have talked on this and is willing to take the issue from mvblogosphere to the mainstream media.And the Foreign Minister Dr.Ahmed Shaheed have also said that the fact that some Maldivian students abroad are taking up training in the camps of militia groups is a matter of concern.But is it really a matter of concern? really,really?!...i doubt. because foreign minister's remarks came only after an article about this appeared on slate.com which quoted Attorney General Hassan Saeed as saying; "Obviously it is the biggest threat to this country".This article have interviews from extremists and the journalists' visit to an 'illegal' mosque in Male' (which is called dotukom, just opposite to masjidhul zikuraa-bappaafulhu miskiy,majeedheemagu).It is sad that a foreign journalist wrote these stuff while Maldivian journalists are busy covering the never ending series of MDP muzaaharaa and government crackdowns.

Meanwhile haveeru daily have reported on 2 nd June2007 that 11 people were arrested in Male' for trying to conduct a 'unofficial' Friday prayers at a small mosque near Galolhu Football stadium (Masjidul Sultan Adil) . And there were some clashes between the police and the fundamentalists in which a police was attacked by a pavement brick and it is reported that due to this attack the police guy had a crack on his skull.And there were also arguments and confrontations between the fundamentalists and other civilians gathered at that area.3 of the 11 people arrested were below 18 years of age.

All these news are not actually 'news',they are 'old' stories. these have happened several times,this have been going on for a long time.Seperate Congregations,Concluding all Maldivians (except themselves) to be infidels-who have to be beheaded,police arresting minors for religion related 'crimes' and torture them,shaving beards with chili sauce,child abuse in the name of islamic marriage,wife beating,going to Pakistan for jihad...etc.How ever the first time maldivian media recognized that these people exist and reported about them was (i think) about the 'illegal' mosque in Himendhoo island.

For a long time these people have been ignored by the society,the government and also the media.Most people never cared about them, called them wahhaabees or haabees and made fun of (arguing with them is some kinda entertainmenty for most people) some of them who are always very much eager to preach their 'message'.And the the government would every once in a while randomly arrest all 'bearded'men and 'face veiled' women and sometimes torture them.The government found a useful enemy in them.Every now and then gayom would be preaching "some very few people among us do this and that in the name of islam...this is not like this. this is like that...dont worry i am here to protect and guide you"...but now we know this is more serious. more than what we thought.

And there is a ray of hope now. at least the government have now agreed that there are threats, that there are Jihadis trained at Pakistani training camps (especially Lashkar-e-Taiba camps) in Maldives.Foreign minister,Information Minister and the Attorney General have admitted...but is it enough?the government knew about Ali Jaleel and his gang... but they were left to do what every they wanted... they are still free...there are active 'narrow minded, terror minded' groups in Maldives...even other than the Ali Jaleel group... they have connections to global terror groups in the Middle East and Europe.and they are growing day by day....young maldivians are converting in large groups... and what we did so far is professing a known fact?

Balaaboduphobia,Meekaakuphobia,Fotoforumphobia...what ever u call it...i am talking about fear of having your pictures on the internet,specially on Photo forums(maldivian style).This fear was there so much...that people payed hundreds of Rufiyaas to remove a photo from a forum.most commonly people would pay 500 to remove a pic with his/her partner (uncensored). a family photo is removed free (these are the common rates as i know, but there are exceptions.) exceptions like member of parliament; Lolly Jaabiru...he spent thousands of dollars to remove photos of him kissing his girls at yacht tours.

i remember a guy calling me in the middle of the night...asking me to remove a family pic they took when the were in kuda bandos.what the heck!!....it was only a family photo...and mostly kids were there...i didnt understand why he was so worried about it.

another story...a relative of mine..she was worried that we might not get the pics of her daughter recovered after our PC crashed and the pics were lost.i suggested that she put all her pics to a website like flickr or picasa.she said no.i said no one can see them,only she can see them....but still the fear was there..and her daughter was not even 1 year....but that was the past.

what about now?on blogs i have seen few people (like jaa) displayin pics. many bloggers fear to show their faces and because of that refused to go to coffee with bloggers.But now there is a change... this change is brought by ...no..not orkut..there are very few Maldivians with pics there also..

it is facebook.com.... the abul barakaath who chased away the rannamaari of balaaboduphobia!yeah.i was totally shocked to see maldivians, almost all having their pics.and real names too.

i knew it sometime back.but never checked it until my bro told me to check it.and then i registered as usual with my nick name... "moyameehaa" and i didnt put a profile pic either....But to my surprise...people (maldivians!) were demanding me to show my face like all others and i wanted to change my name to my real name...but it takes some time to change name to another name...so, now im waiting for my real name to appear.and soon im gonna show up my face there!so.. every one...lets show our faces on facebook.com!!!!

Here are some songs (~~43 songs!~~ 58 songs!) from the famous Maldivian singer and musician, Naifaru Dhohokko. Dhohokko be' was nominated as the singer of the century (on 2000, by Adduvas Weekly). He was,and still is the favorite singer for thousands of Maldivians, especially among the older generations.We can see this by the fact that in TV programs like 'Alhuganduge Hovun' and Radio programs 'Dhathuthuverinnaai eku'....in almost all of the programs there would be a request for a song from Dhohokko be'. Most of the time they will say "Any song by Dhohokko be' will be o.k for me!".His songs were mostly romantic and love poetry.They were known for the good poetry and his own,unique style of performing.Even if his music were copied from hindi songs; he made it all (as he have said) 'dhohokkobized'.He had a certain standard of performing, for example; he would refuse to perform, if he is not happy with the percussion section.There are very few people who are fit to be in his 'band'.And about poetry, he was very concerned about maintaining the standard of his lyrics.They all had a touch of (not just a touch...a whole lot of em!) Urdu language.

Even today he is a favorite for many Maldivians; young and old ,though some youngsters find his music humorous,disgusting,not-music,not amilla raagu,out dated,not understandable....etc!

whatever. here are the songs.In the memory of Dhohokko be' and his songs that entertained thousands of Maldivians.May his soul rest peacefully.Amen!

how to get rid of the damned Boli font.

'MV Boli.ttf' is the Microsoft windows default unicode font for dhivehi language.That means, if you dont have the unicode thaana font (or xp font,as we commonly call it.) used on a specific website installed to your system... the damned 'MV Boli' font will show up automatically.

That's how the disgusting Boli font looks like.i am sure no one will like that.
and i am going to tell you how to replace it with a better one.like this one.

* after you make this happen, you wont have to worry about installing thaana unicode fonts all the time. just install your favourite font and that will be displayed always, just like bolifont.

*another good thing about this is....after doing this...bloggers can write with Unicode Thaana Fonts and no one (who have done this) will be disgusted to read it, even if you don't give a specific font.

*and also some times we have problems even if we install the font required by a website...the Boli font will not go. grrrr.

SO LETS DO IT!..lets get rid of the accursed Boli font!

1. First you will have to install a new, and better unicode font. i installed faruma-shown above (if you want it, click here).Or you can download any other font (anything will be better than boli font!) from this list... or from here.

now install it.i am sure u will know how to install it.and if u don't know...just follow the instructions given here.

hmm....so,u have installed your font,the one which will replace Boli font.

2. Now download the font fixer.from either of these links.

Font Fixer 1.0.4i.exe (72 kilobytes) .

Font Fixer 1.0.4i.zip (32.8 kilobytes) .

3. so you have downloaded the font fixer.now run it by double clicking the icon.

4. The thingy will open.Choose the default font ('MV Boli')...and choose the one you want to take it's place (in this case ..'Faruma'). and click the 'Fix It' button.

5. a message saying that it is all done and the damned boli font is saved elsewhere will show up...click 'ok'.

(errr...why the hell we need the a backup of bolifont anyway!)

6.again, (after you click ok)..another message will pop up...saying that you need to restart your computer.

click yes.

7. now you have restarted you computer.... CONGRATULATIONS!!!...you have successfully got rid of the damned Boli font. to make sure (and be happy about it) just visit this page and see if it is good to see.

Jazeera Daily have reported that a Buddha shaped giant flower pot imported by Four Seasons Resorts Maldives (yeah,the same guys who were in the limelight for Buddhas and topless dancers at a Birthday celebration ) have been confiscated by the Maldives Customs Service.The flower pot which was imported to Maldives on 13th of this month have been confiscated after the Supreme Council on Islamic Affairs gave a verdict confirming that it is indeed an idol, the newspaper reported, citing a senior customs official.Jazeera reported that this 2 feet flower pot was made of a cement like material.

"Even if it was a flower pot it looked like an idol(used for worhip),so we queried the Council (the Supreme Council on Islamic Affairs).They decreed that it must be treated as an idol.And that is why we refused to release it from the customs service."Jazeera quoted the official as saying.According to Jazeeraa,the official also confirmed that the pot will be demolished in the same manner they demolish all other confiscated objects, and the people who imported it have also been notified about this.Further more, Jazeeraa reported that after the newspaper published some pictures of this pot,The Ministry of Tourism have said that they will attend to this matter very soon.

There are certain songs that becomes so popular in maldives...where ever you go, you here it.many of them eurodance style,which i believe become popular through the tourism industry.and the old TVM also have something to do with it.for what ever the reason they became popular..they have been popular all over Maldives.and most have been one hit wonder songs(throughout the world).and sorry that this time its only from evering'e bai.these are mostly celebration songs.party or hithaanee season songs.

but i couldnt find many of em.what i found ive put it here (thanx to radioblogclub).i couldnt find; for example what sounds like "ney nanannaaa"...well thats what we used to call it as kids.im sure u all will know that one!the one which some one (haifa?) sang a dhivehi song 'mee raaje ey' at the inter school singing competition(i remember her as wearing a black thashibari dress..hehe).and there are many other such songs...which i couldnt find.

so,i hope u enjoy these songs.u must have heard it some time.lets see what memories comes to you?...heard it at some island?,hithaanee season?eedhu? zaeemu wins election eedhu?a party(no dammit!, not a political party..the old ones..the good ones)?a disco?what ever it is...it sure makes me feel...i dunno.strange.

I like Maldivian comedies.but old ones are my favorites.bahabaru,floke the interntional,dhiriulhumakee meebaa... and stuff like these.but Yoosay is not always funny.and i really dont like Pindey and Muhammaakalo.Sithifulhu and Haajaraa are also good at times (like Sithifulhu's "are you waiting for somebody?" one.from present day comedians shaazu (of NSS) is good.he is gud at imitating and is really creative (he reminds me of Mahurabu ibbe one of my favourites...ones like ladhu and kanduadeege kensaru are still good for a healthy time laughing).

here is a video clip from Muhamma kalo's falhisikunthu.i liked it...becoz shaazu's performance is really good.and the concept of,him appearing as several social stereotypes in male'.specially this scene where he is seen as a typical chef at a haabru kada.enjoy!

if maldivians did any kind of nature worshiping they must surely have worshiped "mother sea"...yes the amazing seas of maldives. where maldivians get food from,fish from,money (through tourism and fishing) from and which moves causes islands to erode at one end and form at the other end,assures the safety of people traveling between tiny islands and atolls(and sometimes shows supernatural powers by means of kandumathi elhun and vigani erun or kandu fureytha or even rannamaari)....these are the amazing seas where we have discovered 1.6 tonnes of cannabis stored at an underwater go down (discovered on 15 april 2006).where we have found heroin bullets worth millions floating (25 may 2004),where people discover floating wealth, called Ambergris or maavaharu (some 250 grams of it is worth Mrf.15,000 ),and it is the sea where they have discovered new species of fish.

but this time its is something really really FISHY going on.a floating corpse was discovered on 15 april 2007, at 0745 hrs.police says that this person who was a drug addict and was arrested 6 days before that (on 9th of April) on drugs charges in his home island in Hithadhoo, Addu Atoll.He was brought to atholhuvehi-the police arresting center-in male', from addu.police says that he was released from atholhuvehi on 13 April at 0924 hrs.but his family says that he contacted them on 12 April at around 1430 hrs.and that was the last time they heard from him.They claim that if he have been released he would have met them or atleast informed that.

so what makes me think there is something fishy going? hmm..many things indeed.

one;why would he be discovered only near atholhuvehi?would the police release him in one day?if they released him,why to male' and not to his own island?if police murdered him why would they throw him infront of their place?his family says he is a partey but not a thief,but police tried to make a probability theory stating that he could have been killed by some people at the harbor for robbing their boats.why would police do that?why would they rush to remove his clothes and take it to 'police custody' (as they do it with the bondibaiy theli)?Are police undertakers or jamaa'aitherin?why cant they leave the body if there is nothing they have to investigate there?why wouldn't they take the body to the mortuary to maintain the state it was in,when they found it?and the biggest questions...WHY DID THEY try to bury him first. and WHY DID THEY HESITATED to do post postmortem the way late Mr.Salah's family wanted?infact,it is said that the government was finally FORCED to do it the way his family wanted (thanks to salah's family and their lawyer husnu suood...NOW, WHERE IS THE HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISION?).Senior Police officers even asked adhaalath party's islamic scholars to give fatawas saying autopsy is haraam in Islam,but adhaalath refused and gave fatawa that it is recomended to do it in this case.Police even tried to do it without letting the family know, but Male' municipality intervened, and after police brought a specialist to do the work (the way they wanted to do) from sri lanka,srilankan embassy also intervened.so it is clear that the government and the police didn't want people to know what had happened to salah.they are clearly trying to hide something....but what?what could have happened to him?

did the police kill him?if they did, why the hell would they throw his body in front of atholhuvehi?and would they kill again,after several deaths prison have given good lessons to them?(good lessons.huh?,first sentenced to death,then lifetime in prison...again reduced to some years and finally will be forgiven by the president and released?but surely good lesson to gayom's government.)...could it be part of the political game?is this a wrong, desperate action taken by an anti government group(MDP or related people or islamists)?if he was a paatey can this be from the parteys?or one of their leaders (like yameen??)err...yeah,if any politician in madlives-other than gayoom-would kill a person,the two people i say have the guts to do that is:Yameen and Adam Zahir.but why would they do it?to create problems for gayoom?because salah was speaking about their drug business?can it be gayom doing this (as he fled to singapore the day before this event).but why?or did he just died (natural death), and the police guys feared MDP creating a mess out of it,and then dumped his dead body?

different people give different explanations (mostly conspiracy theories like this).But,no one knows the truth.and to say some one is a murderer is a big thing to do.so better be careful.it seems as if some of the opposition guys knows what really happened (from what they are saying).but they are just trying to blame it on Gayom and topple him or at least create problems for him in his campaign for another sweet 5 years of presidency.But we really really know there is something fishy going on.the police have tried to bury salah's body (and also the truth about his death with it).and the family fought the good fight.but still... we will have to wait for the reports to come out and solve this mystery if it can.

On 3rd June 2005 political parties was allowed in maldives and Gayom was the second to make a political party and became its founder and zaeemu.

Article 33 of the Maldives consitution says: "The President shall be the Head of State, Head of Government and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and the Police of the Maldives"

Party Rules from the Home Ministry says on 5, alifu, and 5, vaavu, Police and NSS people cannot become a member of any political party.

So how can Gayoom, who is head of both Police and NSS (according to the Constitution), form a political party and be its zaeemu?(oh...and how can MDP talk to a ghairu gaanoonee party like DRP?...that's what they are.any way,any how..they want...'something')

AGAIN HE BROKE THE LAW!

The famous loan scam?The government granted 125.64 million Rufiyaa from Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) account number 2060 under special concessions of the President of the Republic over the last few years.Once MDP and others fought against it, but now where is that?

HE BROKE THE LAW! but we forgot again.

and also 2005 budget controversy have almost been forgotten.these are only a few things.just to remind us,bcoz we always keep on forgetting.we must instead keep on fighting with these fact on our side.

so, now i announce that...he is not our president according to Article 47(1)-(c) of The Constitution of Maldives.

(note that this is not the only reason he is not our president.there are many other reasons.this is enough for a small post like this)

"The President may be removed from office where any of the following matters has been allegedagainst him and has been dealt with in accordance with subclauses (2)(a) and (2)(b) of this Article and the People’s Majlis having deliberated on the report submitted pursuant to subclause (2)(d) of this Article by the Committee of Investigation on its findings, resolves by a two-thirds majority that sufficient evidence exists to accept the allegations against the President and hence the President be removed from office.

(a) The President becomes disqualified under
the provisions of the Constitution for the office of
President.
(b) The President becomes permanently
incapacitated to discharge the functions of his office
by reason of mental or physical infirmity.
(c) Intentional violation of the Constitution.
(d) Commission of an offence for which a hadd
is prescribed in Islam."

But is it possible to remove him within the boundaries of the constitution?
NO!!!

Article 47 (2)(a) says that a motion to remove the President from office
may be considered in the People’s Majlis only IF 1/3 of the members WRITE to the Speaker alleging any of the matters mentioned,specifying the reasons thereof....and IF the Majlis resolves by a two-thirds majority to consider such motion.

and also,Article 47 (2)(b) says that the allegation must be investigated by a Committee of Investigation comprising 5 persons:2 of whom shall
be nominated by the Parliament , 2 appointed by the President himself and 1 person acceptable to both the People’s Majlis and the President. And this committee must submit its report on the matter within 30 days.

So, i don't believe that it is possible to remove this guy withing the boundaries of constitution (without amendments,as it is now).u see...he wouldn't even let the MPs discuss the voting age issue in the parliament now.becoz the parliament is in his hands.So lets just keep this guy ... and just ignore him.hehe..what to do dho.errr...or u want to do it the Ghairu gaanoonee way?!!!

This is about the recent controversy over a giant Buddha statue built on a Maldives Island (BBC , D.O ) for Sir Philip Green's birthday party(Guardian).

This time the Giant Buddha on Baa atoll Landaa giraavaru island was 'legal'.but some years back Fareesha O'Shea of the famous Maldivesculture.com website (An Australian lady of Maldive descent) was arrested for arriving from Bali (Indonesia) with a "Buddha used for Christian worship".And a police officer who did some kinda training in India got a trophy with an image of a hindu deity...it was confiscated from airport (most probably...the customs officers handed it over to the army and they burnt it safely...in a way that qaumee ebbai vanthakan and zamaanussure dhivehinge medhugai onna ukhuvvaiy therikan will not be harmed.haha.)

what kind of 'islamic fiqh' is this?Maybe this is 'gayoomee fiqh'.

there was a similar fatwa given by uttama (Maldives’ Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Council on Islamic Affairs, Sheikh Mohamed Rasheed Ibrahim). It was on a religous radio programme aired by VOM (i think the name of it is Olhigandu..it was aired every Friday night) .there was a Q&A session,and one Maldivian guy questioned about Christian tourists visiting the Islamic center and Mosque in Male'.Apparently the guy was not happy with some of them wearing crosses and crucifixes on their neck.And uttama gave the fatawa.

"It is haraam to carry a Cross into mosques which are the houses of God on earth.If any one goes into a Mosque carrying a big cross...we must not allow him to do so,we must send him out immediately.but, as for tourists wearing small crosses on their neck,that is ok.there is nothing wrong in it."

So thats it!Small cross is halaal.Big cross is haraam.Small Buddha is haraam and big Buddha is halaal.Size Matters! and i dunno if it is a big or a small krishna or ganesh that is haraam...i will have to ask uttama.

yeah.thats it.These doublestandards are there for some reason.Sir Phillip Green paid big money.the tourists paid.but normal maldivian citizens dont.thats why they dont have the right to worship or even carry or even talk about any other deity. and ...who the hell will carry a cross on his shoulder into the islamic centre.ehehe.

So it is all about our economy?not really...it is about pumping money in from the west and pumping em out to the swiss accounts of big fat businessmen and big bad politicians.Alcohol is also banned for Maldivians but Legal for tourists...and yeah...also topless dancers.but i DOOO think maldivians have a right to enjoy freedom of religion.It was Gayom who took away this freedom,and i want him to give it back!He have tortured Maldivian Christian converts and anyone who goes against 'Golhaa Islam' for almost 3 decades.its time we talk about these rights and question the crazy fatawaas given by uttama and gayom.And it is time we start thinking freely about EVERYTHINHG.what do you think?does maldives need freedom of religion?Is it just, to force all maldivians to be muslims when they are all not willing to?do we need to go for a referendum in deciding this?or should all the maldivians be barred from the right to freedom of religion.....and these rights be 'sold' only to those who can pay enough money?

Haveeru is the best media outlet in Maldives?Yes,many people are now saying this .. i have heard many people saying that,including the opposition MDP's propaganda websites.even the most hardcore MDP activists agree that, to some extent Haveeru is now an independent news paper,who's reports,news and views are unbiased.See how minivannews described haveeru here...

But i cant agree....Haveeru cannot be 'sometimes biased' and 'sometimes unbiased' in reporting and presenting the news,it has to be on either side...there is no standing in the middle! ....there's a lot of coloring in haveeru reports...and it does not allow viewers to comment freely (on its online version).which is now in beta...and i say;the whole company is in a state of 'beethaa' for the last few years....that is from the time they got out from the lines of miadhu and aafathis (which are not popular and publishes only the news approved from the president's office ).Now in this beethaa state, i have encountered a lot of problems in commenting on its online edition.

One day i wanted to comment and 'Oh my God!' there is no 'comment on this article' link in this very special news.Yes,it was a news article about gayom...well i was not going to write anything like 'golhaabo isthiufaa' or any base or unethical comment.i was trying to comment on what i thought about the article,but it seems he is far above that...he is in a position where the citizens cannot even comment about him...well atleast for this haveeru beethaa, he is god-like and resting in sidhurathul munthahaa!.

And there is another problem ..something more technical.That is ; i cant comment using xp fonts...i mean most of the time it doesnt even work with firefox and i have to open ie if i want to comment.well thats another problem...guess nattu will fix it soon as he have said.

but the incident which made me write this post is that, today i had another problem with the beethaa.that is ; when i published a comment on one of the articles it appeared sometime later....but not in my name...not the way i published it! Many comments that i have made have been denied in the past also...but this time...they denied it and published a more 'acceptable' version which they made-up.hmm....but i dont remember using any coarse language.i used the modern,ikhlaastheri,abui dhivehi (with a lot of arabic influence and gayomic words).so wtf is with them this time.??

ok now lets not worry...here is the solution...we have an alternaive...the internet is very democratic...and our voices can be heard now...we dont need the damned beethaas!

This time i was trying to comment on this article...It was about a case where some 7 men were accuse of gang rape, regarding an incident in G.A. Maamendhoo island in year 2005.But only one of them were convicted and he also got a very light punishmednt...that is thauzeeru with 91 lashes together with banishment (most probably he will send a letter to the authorities and have his banishment changed to an island where he can feel more like home or maybe to his own island where he will be living happily with hsi family!) for 2 years.It seems that there was 'not enough' evidence against the others.any way...my comment was not about the court's judgement...it was about haveeru news .I said in my comment that; by naming the rape victim,Haveeru daily has done a great harm to the victim and also to her family.i said it is an act which is against the ethics of journalism.i said that during this time when the country is moving forward in imporving the media..it is very important to take notice of this and the likes of it...

so that was the unpublished comment....and i have even more now.i have seen that haveeru and most of the other outlets using the gayomic term 'badhu akhulaaqee' to describe any illegal sexual activity or any sexual crime.now atleast they use the term 'rape'....but i remember an article about karnal nasheedh of MDP...who was accused of child abuse..he was just accused , but haveeru went on to disclose even the most minor details of this alleged act in one of its news reports.now that is what i call a politically motivated reporting.but after that many times i have heard of 'badhu akhulaaqee'....and it is good that this time they have given the names of the convicts ....but the name of the victim?her adress?no...i dont think it is good...

but you know...this beethaa haveeru didnt give her age!!! they got her name and adress for the public....which is not necessary and i believe is something they must hide.but they couldnt get the age of the victim who was snatched and taken in to the woods and gang raped!So thats it...haveeru is really in a state of Beethaa!!!errr...can the victim file a lawsuit against haveeru and seek compensation ,under the new 'aburaabehumuge gaanoonu' (the law of defamation in maldives)???
